I have a new computer with the Vista Home Premium system installed.

I've used it to burn some dvd movies using Nero and Anydvd.

But, today I ripped some music CDs into my WMP library and when I went to burn a unique compilation CD based on the CD's that I ripped into the library; well, after I compile the burn list and then hit the "burn" button, WMP11 comes back with an instruction in the top right hand corner that I need to connect a burner and until that happens it can't burn anything.

I'm a bit perplexed about what's going on here. The burner is connected and I've been using it; so, I can't understand why WMP11 can't see the burner that's sitting there.
Any ideas about what might be going on here. Thanks.

I haven't tried burning from WMP 11 but when I burn a data DVD with Windows Explorer it takes ages to finish. In XP, it used to be fast. What is your experience?
Also, have you tried burning the CD with Nero? Does it work there? Did the computer come with Vista or you upgraded?

To verify that your CD drive is recognized and set up to burn, do the following:

1. Open Computer.

2. In the Devices with Removable Storage area, right-click the drive, and then click Properties. If your CD drive is recognized, you will see a Recording tab.

3. Make sure the right drive is selected.

Ok, thanks for your ideas.
And, yes the cd did burn using Nero; but, with WMP11 I get a "please install a burner" message.
I phoned the store and they seem to think it is some Vista glitch, ie Vista not being fully compatible with some hardware. The burner is the latest Sony DVD burner.
The store said they would try to install a software patch to get the burner to work inside WMP11.
As for going into Device manager, yea the unit is properly connected and shows up on the system.
I'm going to let the store solve the WMP11 not burning a CD problem. Maybe they'll have to give me a different brand of burner.
Anyway, thanks for your input.
