Hell. Where Else?

The bank has finally approved my new home computer. So I'm getting a new HP Pentium D830 Dual Core Computer with 4gb RAM (Max) and other neat features. Looking forward to trying out the Lightscribe.

Question is it comes with MCE but I won't be attaching it to my home theatre. I may attach cable TV to it but nothing too extravagant compared to what MS demos on their website. The site illustrates all the cool multimedia features but mentions nothing about the computer features & benefits. Do I assume it's the same as x64?

  1. So, do I keep MCE or switch to x64?
  2. How many apps have been written in 64bit?
  3. Would regular Xp be OK or would it cripple the system?
  4. Can I turn off the MCE interface?
Thanks for all your help.

In my opinion, MCE is invaluable. You can turn off the interface. However, for me, it works amazingly well. Put in a couple of tv tuners, add an atsc tuner and throw up an antenna, and you will enjoy it. Note it is not 64 bit.. and most people should not care. It is also XP home under the covers (used to be XP pro I believe).

I think you are nuts to get a bank loan for a computer though.

Will be using it primarily as a computer not an entertainment device. Though those options are kinda cool.

Not a bank loan. I work for a bank thus they are paying for it. :)

Phew... ok.. just given the depreciation, not smart to get a loan for one.

Check what you can do with media center externders (built in to the new xbox 360). I think you may like it...
