Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

I got my automatic windows update this morning and it's this windows genuine advantage notification program. I have some serious reservations about allowing this install. When I read the license agreement it states that this upgrade cannot be uninstalled in the future. I declined the installation for now until I learn more about this update. one of my reservations is what's to stop Microsoft declaring my copy of windows obsolete in the future and therefore not genuine forcing me to buy a new copy. What possible advantage is it to me to install this update? It's not like microsoft will discount sales of windows if it crushes piracy. Does anyone have any advise or information about this function.

At some point you might not be able to install new updates if you don't have the genuine advantage installed.

Windows already snuck in the WGA program several months ago and now it wants to install the WGA again. What's the difference between this WGA and the previous WGA?

I heard somewhere that some people had developed work around hacks of the original WGA program and these programming changes by Microsoft are designed to plug those holes in the original programming for WGA.

I allowed the thing to go ahead on one of my computers because I had a clone backup drive just in case. My computer took the new, "improved" WGA without any problems.

If you have actually purchased your copy of windows, go ahead an install... its required to install any updates afterwards...

if you didn't purchase your copy, do it.

do you mean if you didnt purchase your copy DONT do it?

I'm in the same position as most of you. My windows came with the computer that i bought CD and everything, but i delcined it anyways, also waiting to see what are the pros and cons of installing and not installing.

What others have suggested is correct. My installation only popped up the other day, but my moms older computer actually had this genuine thing for quite a while now. I didnt now what it was at the time so i installed it so now there is always an icon in bottom right corner by the time, indicating your windows is not genuines. You can cannot install any new updates.
