Does anybody know where older operating systems go once a new one gets introduced?

Windows 7 is out, but what happens to all the Vista's out there at Future Shop, Best Buy, etc? Do they all get thrown out? Why can't we have an OS sale, like everything else? When a new one comes out, why not discount the previous ones at 50% or more to clear them out? I guess this is naive thinking, when there is an effective OS monopoly out there. There is a resale market out there for basically everything else.

It probably has to do with retail and marketing agreements with Microsoft and the stores.

I would think that Microsoft does NOT want you buying Vista for a lower price; they probably want you to buy W7 at full retail.

For the actual physical Vista boxes, I bet they probably go back to Microsoft.

It's still possible to get older OS's from ebay and online.
