I'm thinking of moving to Wind to save some money. I know their network is not as developed as like the Big 3, but I'm not a heavy user, and don't travel often outside of their zones. I'd like to hear about other Wind users' experiences.

I live in Ajax. I'm a Wind customer. I lose reception a lot:

When I'm travelling on the 407, although their Wind zone extends north of Stouffville.
On the 401 near the 404, almost always drops my calls.
On the 401 by Yonge I lose reception a lot, not dropped calls, but usually about a 15 second 'outage'.

I'm often 'Roaming' in Etobicoke, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Niagara, Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax and Oshawa. All of these are within their Wind Zone.

If you were seriously considering Wind, and you regularly travel outside the old 'Toronto' boundary I'd re-think it.

With all of that said, I use my phone to call long distance to the US 50 hours a month, 5000 texts, blackberry messenger, internet, email, and including the roaming issues I stated above, my bill comes in at roughly $50 a month.

I once priced it out for Rogers or Bell, and estimate I'd be paying over $200 a month on those. So.. I live with it!

I've switched from Rogers to Wind more than a year ago. I have the "Miracle Plan" which is only offered during Holidays. I pay 40$ including unlimited Canada/US calls, unlimited SMS, unlimited internet including tethering to my laptop and using my smartphone as an internet radio in my car to avoid listening to the worst radios on earth (Toronto radio channels). I have also used Wind in the States and the minute is much cheaper than the Rogers packages that you buy.

Having said that, I work in different "large" buildings and i get poor reception in those buildings. I don't have that problem at home or when I'm driving. Regardless of the fact that their reception is not as good as Rogers', I am happy and satisfied.

One more point to consider in addition to all of the good ones made above. WIND saves money by limiting their customer service support to their retail outlets. I don't think they even have telephone "customer care" which at least Rogers does a decent job of handling.

But when you offer unlimited voice, data and internet, WIND has to find ways to keep its costs down, so just factor it in to your purchase decision.

This caught my eye. I wonder if Wind offers a voice only unlimited Canada/US calls plan during the holidays.

Have the same plan, glad I switched, HOWEVER, there are times when their signal is brutal in areas they clearly label as "home".
I managed to fight them a few times on a couple of bills because of this issue. They are expanding so obviously there will be growing pains, gotta deal with it, but for the price, blows anything the big 3 have/had to offer.

I had Wind, and hated them. The only way you get a signal with in the Toronto GTA area is if you are outside, or next to a window. I would suggest Mobilicity same network but better coverage and at 40 dollars a month you cant go wrong.

I've been with Wind twice and finally made the moved over to Mobilicity about 3 months ago.

Hot, that's the only other carrier I'd switch over to (possibly Fido - which is Rogers, but only for calls and texting, don't care for data) but at the moment, I'm content with Wind.
I'm just slightly apprehensive with Mobilicity since I'm not too sure how they will fair long term whereas Wind has some serious backing from the Egyption billionaire.
Although I haven't read much on Mobilicity's backings, etc.
Is their signal strength THAT much better?

Just be VERY cautious about their "home" zones, TRUST ME. I'm in the heart of their "home zone" and good chunk of the area is complete crap.
But again, for my usage and what I'm getting out of the plan, I'll hold on another year or so and see how much they improve, because some areas have gotten better for me.
$45 miracle plan, unlimited everything, can't beat it.

My worse invoice was $15 over and it probably was my fault for usage or my cousin's, or his gf fkn YouTubing maybe.
But otherwise, I rarely go over $50, I don't do media streaming much, which is a killer.

I also did not enjoy my Wind experience, and cancelled after a year and a bit. I had high hopes that Wind could help bring down the oligarchy of the big 3, but I don't see it happening. Had the technical issues others mention above, and their customer service was the WORST I have ever encountered. It is outsourced, unhelpful, and at times actually incompetent. I was a regular asker for "your supervisor", as the line staff were not competent at sorting out problems either technical or billing-related.

Avoid Wind.

uh.. what? I've called Wind at least once a month to pay my bill. They definately have a customer service number 611 from your Wind Phone, or 1-877-946-3184

I suppose it depends where you live for reception quality. One of my friends living in Mississauga (Eglinton/Mavis) area got two cell phones with Wind on the Holiday Mircale plan a year go. $40 per month unlimited everything X 2. It was over a year ago and he's has no major complaints. He cancelled his home phone line with Bell and now uses one of the Wind cell phones as the "home" phone. The unlimited data plan is also great, and my buddy tethers his laptop to the Blackberry phone.
