There is no doubt that the NHL will return to Quebec City. There is a natural rivalry with Montreal and an energized fan base. Like Winnipeg, there will be a waiting list for season tickets a half hour after they are posted for sale and snapped up. The NHL needs solid franchises, not more Floridas and Arizonas.

Not if Gary Bettman is commish. Seattle or Las Vegas first as much as it doesn't make financial and hockey sense.

Remember now about the Canadian dollar, the players are paid in american dollars, so I wonder if Quebec can afford it now , I would be worried about Winnipeg now

There's more to it than just giving them team, there is already a 16-14 team imbalance, quebec would make it 17-14 east/west, meaning there would have to be some sort of realignment again.

That's easy Columbus goes back to the west.

Remember the Canadian teams ticket prices are double that of many murican teams, and at least 25% higher, plus they sell out most of their games when many murican teams don't, this more than makes up for the 25% drop in the dollar. If the Canadian teams can't survive then 70% of the murican teams shouldn't either, but they do.

There is revenue sharing yes MLSE gives some of the profits to the poor American teams. Gary Bettman basically pick pockets MLSE.

It happens in all the pro sports team leagues
Visiting team gets a certain percentage of the home team gate receipts
not sure what the breakdown is..

Which is why Toronto will never get a second team without MLSE approval. The only way it gets done is if current ownership agrees to it. The only scenario I see this happening is theough a Rogers / bell split and as part of the agreement one gets an expansion team.

What has bettman done the last 10 years to suggest that he is anti-Canada now.

He moved Atlanta to Winnipeg. If you think that not allowing the Ballsillie purchase and move to take place is anti Canadian you are simply off base.

Ballsillie was being cheap and essentially trying to steal from other owners by moving into a market that has expansion value and would piss of the league biggest donor -- MLSE. It failed because Ballsillie did not play by the rules.

If I was a multi millionaire I would take a measuring tape along the 401 and figure out where exactly the Leafs and Sabres territorial rights end and start building an arena there. As for Quebec I really hope they come back because it will further prove that Bettman and the owners are idiots who cannot figure out that hockey is a regional sport in the U.S., that outside of the Midwest and northeast you cannot force people in Miami or Phoenix to like it no matter how hard you try.

It's not that simple. Even if you have territorial rights, the league will not give you a team unless you pay a hefty expansion or relocation fee, and ensure that the Leafs are happy. The league owners will not bite the hand that feeds them. So you will need to pay the Leafs to get into the league, and they will need to agree to a figure before it gets approved.

That 500 million dollar expansion fee is crazy to pay for a team in quebec. Can't see how they they get a return on that money
