Last year when I launched my brief carer as an SP I investigated working in Nevada.

I was shocked and looked forward to working there when I found out what the brothels charged. I was horrified and turned my eyes to Canada when I discovered how little the girls took home.

The big winner in Nevada seems to be the government and licensing organizations. Will it happen in Toronto? Can politicians resist getting their hands on our money?

Will the government provide training to SPs so we can do long arm inspections?

Will they take a huge cash grab licence fee from the brothels?

Will working girls have surrender 1/2 their income to the government?

I imagine the brothels that pay the fees will report and complain about any incall or outcall agency. Will the government help them corner the market? LCBO have girls among the bottles?

Should we look towards $200 HHs of which we get to keep $60 ?

(I am just disturbing the shit because when I post serious things I get yelled at :) )

Don't they already?
All SP's report their income and pay taxes on it, right? :)

IF they tax it too heavily, the whole industry will just go underground again and we'd be back where we started. It's like native reservation smokes - they get a lot more popular when cigarette taxes jump. As a similar discretionary vice, the sex trade would probably have similar economic features.

Gas is a necessity for most, whereas paid-for sex is a luxury and vice. So the politicians wont tax it more than the market will bear. But they will aggressively seek out that breaking point...

However, the SP only pays the tax on her income, as income tax. The other sex taxes people gleefully talk about would be passed on to the consumer, so no, the SP will not be disproportionately penalized.

Unless her clientele opts for non-regulated entertainment.

Because the Cornwall border crossing was on an island and the reservation was on both sided of the boarder the Cornwall natives could drive 40' trucks across, filled with smokes, and say that they were just going to their home on the island. They would just keep on driving instead though and head for Montreal.

When the Reform party finally moved the border crossing to the mainland in downtown Cornwall the natives were screwed for awhile. They then got some large speedy boats that zipped down the st lawrence and unload at some river / lakeside homes in Baie Durfe and Beaconsfield that are owned by the mob. Now for those of us who grew up in those communities having the mob live in big homes by the lake is not new. Having them part of the cigarette smuggling is new in the last couple of years.

And being that it is Quebec it is not as though you can go to the cops.

So yes there will always be a tipping point where underground will thrive again.

Strip clubs in Toronto are taxed and regulated more than in Mississauga and not allowed in Markham, you might see it like this for brothels with local governments making the decisions.

Swinger clubs might be a better example of how it will go.

I know one strip club that is seriously thinking of having a brothel on premise, he has a fair location and enough room but I don't think he has the smarts to pull it off.

Government will create their own line of brothels and legislate a monopoly - just like they have with the LCBO and the Casinos. Beer Store might as well be a govt monopoly - they get all the kickbacks as it is. I'm just surprised that they are busy outlawing smoking on patios, instead of nationalizing all patios and decreeing that smokers can't smoke anywhere else...
