I was curious why anyone who wants to buy a tablet wouldn't buy an iPad ??
Unless they're cheap?? Same guys that think coffee time and Tim hortons crappy coffee is better than Starbucks or independent coffee shops.
Maybe some people are just too cheap or Luddites ??

Comments? Cheap shots??

why wouldn't they buy anything else?
Based on hardware specs a lot of 'droid tablets blow the ipad away and even then, some specs of the ipad2 are not known, big secret, shhhhh. lol

the hobby needs more capitalism
I see there being two main categories of buyers.

Apple / iPad users are motivated more by their desire for an easy, simple experience. They really don't care about hardware specs and are willing to pay the price for their experience.

These are the types that buy a car with an automatic transmission, softer suspension and high sidewall tires because they like a nice ride and don't have any desire to drive hard. They just wanna get where they are going.

Others are more motivated by hardware and specifications. They like to tinker. They appreciate the performance. They buy stickshift cars with low profile tires and then like to even install firmer suspension and bigger brakes.

IMO...
Pretty much. However, you can be a power user on both platforms.

Other tablets are thinner, and lighter. I prefer the picture frame format, rather then the note pad formate apple offers.

With these buying decisions it's hard to argue many are making the decision based on HW alone.... Samsung's share (the competitor from a HW perspective for Apple) lost share and is in single digits.... not much of an augment for the old PC buying behavior.

Here's a few good reasons.

1. With an Ipad you can't just drag and drop your files from one computer to your tablet.
2. If you have a bunch of downloaded videos/music you need to take time and convert them all to be able to play it on the ipad.
3. You need to print stuff (there are some workaround solutions but nothing straight forward for the ipad)
4. Size preference (some people like 5-7inch size of tablets)
5. Oh yea and not 2 mention not everyone wants to have to use itunes to do anything between computer/tablet.

I'm not trying to bash the ipad but these are a few genuine reasons why ppl would rather buy something else. Having that said, it doesn't mean that the majority of people care about these things.

Because some people don't know what a tablet is but they know Ipad. I gave my Ipad to my SO so she can buy me a cheaper ASUS transformer. She thougth she got a better deal. Good for her.

Fuck itunes for 1.
Fuck converting, however, good move by apple to force people to just go out and buy a Mac, rather than learn how to convert stuff, once they get sucked into the apple tree.

But the drag'n'drop files from one computer to the other?
That's bullshit and brutal.

To think I was honestly giving the iPad some thought at some point in the future and would do more homework on these things if/when the time arised.
But now, maybe not so much. lol

Thanks for the bullet points Z.

Maybe because there's better products out there? I can't really think of any major advantage of the ipad over a top of the range android one, except there are more accessories to choose from.

I can hook my tablet up to my tv with HDMI, and using a PS3 controller I can play all sorts of arcade games with mame, sega genesis, nintendo, game boy, etc, etc.
I can download any movie/audio/book/pick whatever you can think of file type and transfer it to my tablet easily, without the use of third party software and play/use it right away.
I have a gmail account and the integration with that is seamless, I would actually call it invaluable.
Now that ICS is out, pretty much any app will (and all the decent ones already have) been updated to run with it. Which means they seamlessly work on either my phone or my tablet. I dare say there are a few apps for ipad that you can't get for android tablets, but pretty much any big name "must have" app is.

So it's got nothing to do with cheap or being a Luddite (which in my opinion is more appropriate for the apple lovers who blindly defend them when apple restricts what they can do with THEIR tablet). I wouldn't buy an ipad even if it was significantly cheaper than inequivalent android tablets.

Here's why they buy iPads...cause they're something everyone understands. Apple knows how to market. They have the apple store. i got a playbook and it seems ok for what i want to do. but when a friend wanted a tablet, without hesitation, i said get an iPad. if i knew that the android store had an equivalent app for everyone in the Apple store, that would be different. but i read many places..."not available for android". so when the price differential is so small, hackers and savvy computer users may buy an android based system. everybody else is better served with the ipad.

i just checked the apps i use, and they're all available on android. i hadn't checked before. for me, that opens up my next tablet purchase.

Maybe so they don't submit to have Google track everything they do and the still obvious tablet application advantage... I'm sorry but the Android phone apps scaling to tablet res is not anything to write home about. I'll stick with Android phones and Apple tablets for now.

I'm not crazy about the google tracking shit either, but it's not just them, it's all over the net.
Why is the scaling not something to write home about? It means that there's a huge amount of apps available for an android tablet. Why is that a bad thing?

Scaling isn't bad, but from my experience it doesn't compare to apps written specifically to take advantage of higher resolutions.

I can't disagree with you and there are apps that are tablet specific, but my understanding is that the way ICS is setup is to make it so that apps written for it will look good regardless of what size screen it's being used on.

Interesting comments.
iPad is a multi-media device and in my opinion it excels at that. The iPad 3 is coming out likely in the next couple of weeks-should be even better.

There are certainly many good reasons why one would want to buy an ipad. If multimedia is your main concern (particularly movies) then this is one area where the ipad is clearly weaker than a high powered android tablet.
