What I take away from the youtube title and the title of this thread is that it is yet another example of misleading headline. It should say something like "Mandatory tipping is a scam". Its generating inaccurate generalization of tipping.
And yes, I do think the OPTION to TIP should remain, but it should not be part of any business finance structure or profit calculations. It's a cash incentive that is extremely difficult to quantify consistently and standardize because it is based on personal emotions at a point in time. We talk about TIPping when over-and-beyond service level is observed, when they see something they like, but I have seen people TIP when they empathize as well, or just plain "feeling" generous.
