Why I hate Chistmas Shopping

So I was out looking for a christmas gift for a family member yesterday. I've already given her stuff from Club Monaco, Guess, and Roots in the past. I thought I'd try a different store this time.

So I was walking through the mall and saw Bootlegger up ahead. Decided to go in and take a look. Ended up talking to a very nice girl. Now I hate buying clothes for other people cause it's pretty much a guessing game for me. I really don't know what this person likes or dislikes so I'm going at this blindly. So the girl asks me what she likes. I tell her "I have no idea". So after about 15 minutes of this girl showing me stuff, we decide on a pair of Jeans and a shirt of some sort. Then she asks me what waist size does the person I'm buying the gift for wear. I reply, "I don't know". So she proceeds to ask me "How does she look compared to me?". I reply "She's somewhat skinnier than you", then I realized the mistake I made. She gave me a sarcastic "Thanks" to my comment. I really didn't mean it the way it sounded. I don't think this girl is large by any means. She's actually quite attractive and has a very nice figure. But when I'm put on the spot, I say stupid things. Although she didn't take my comment seriously, I felt awkward the rest of the time I was there while she was ringing stuff up for me. I also felt really horrible about what I said. So in a nutshell, I insulted a girl without even trying.

This is why I hate Christmas Shopping. I think from now on, I'm not gonna buy clothing anymore. Cash seems like the easiest gift to give people.

I don't think you insulted her. If she asked you that question you had only 2answers and if she didn't like the one you gave, that isn't an insult, she should be able to handle it if she is a good sales person. Stop blaming yourself. You probably got your gf a great pair of jeans. You should be proud of yourself that you risked trying to buy her something cool. Good for you. Don't forget it is the thought that counts and she can always take them back.

You shouldn't be buying clothes for anyone if you don't know their size, sheesh....on top of that you said you've bought them stuff from guess etc before..so, what you bought for them before, was it too big? Too small? Just right?

You also made one of the biggest mistakes a guy can make when a woman discusses ANYTHING to do with her size. YOU ANSWERED DOH. That is one of the biggest traps a guy can fall into. The worst is when your SO asks: Do these jeans make me look fat? DON"T say "No, it is the 2 large pizzas and 72 donuts you ate for breakfast that make you look fat..."

Another mistake you made: DON'T ever buy women jeans! If you have ever gone shopping with a woman you know that they have to try on every pair in the mall before they find just the right pair. The odds of YOU finding that pair as 1 billion to 1. If you buy a size too small, she'll think she's anorexic. If you buy too big, she'll think you think she's too big. Even if you happen on the right size, they won't be the right style/cut/brand.

Anyhow dude, I don't think it is the fact that you hate christmas shopping, you just hate shopping for clothes for women. I learned early on that the only safe clothes to buy for women is underwear/lingerie or sweaters. You can never go wrong with sweaters lol.
