Why I am Going to Stop Playing the Canadian Lotteries

This week is probably going to be the last time I play the Canadian Lotteries.

Why???

Because I might win, although the chances are very remote.

If I win, every Tom, Dick, and Harry is going to come out of the Woodwork, asking for money.

I might get murdered or robbed (It has happened to Lottery winners).

I might get sued and lose. This has happened to lottery winners. And it is impossible to predict the outcome of a court case. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Even if the court case is silly.

One lottery winner was sued by a stranger who claimed that the lottery win from the other guy caused problems in his relationship with his wife because he could not spend lavishly on his wife as a lottery winner could. Guess what? The stranger won the case against the lottery winner.

I play the Australian lottery. It allows you to be anonymous. It is tax-free like the Canadian lottery. The tickets are cheaper with better odds. And you can play online without being ripped off.

It is anonymous because an Australian lottery winner's young son was kidnapped for ransom and murdered. So, they decided to make it anonymous.

The lottery website has an automated software system that allows group plays in which players in a group are paid fairly when there is a win and they cannot be ripped off.

If you would like to join me in a group play, let me know.

How does that work? Don't you have to be an Australian citizen to play the lottery?

You do not have to be an Australian citizen. Canadians can play it. You can play it online. I think there are two websites. The one I use is Oz Lotteries. It is safe and reliable and closely connected with the Australian Government.

The argument the lottery officials use is that there must be transparency and that consumers must know who the winners are so they know the lottery is not bogus or that the lottery winner did not cheat someone.

But the harm that the publicity creates for the lottery winner is enormous.

All that money you lost, you could have invested in an index fund, you'll have a few million after 30 years, and no one will know and ask you for money.
