That's pretty much what my personal trainer tells me all the time when I'm lifting weights. "EYES OPEN EYES OPEN!" Ironically he's also asian lols.
Another time when I was having my passport photos taken, the photographer told me to keep my eyes wide.. he's also asian.

Women are not as visual as men are. Men are visually stimulated while women are stimulated more by the senses of touch, taste and smell. I think that closing their eyes eliminates the visual and they concentrate on the other senses more.
