This is the burning question of our age.
Is it the SC managers? There must be many dancers who love being in the live entertainment business, the excitement of being on stage, the applause, the bright lights -- but the stingy management is saving a buck on the hydro.
Or is it the ladies? Maybe the manager really does want the bright lights - this is show-biz after all - but the dancers, deep down, feel shy about men seeing them with their clothes off, and they force the poor old management to keep the place in semi-darkness.
Or is it the customers? But have you ever come across a guy watching a strip show who actually prefers not to be able to see the dancers? I guess there must be some shy sensitive men, who find semi-darkness more romantic. But why do strip clubs concentrate so much on giving the delicate bashful customer what he wants? Why don't strip clubs, of all places, cater for the man who actually likes to SEE bare women.
Perhaps it's just me. But my guess is there are lotsa men in the audience, who find the naked female form to be the source of all pleasure and beauty.
So, strip clubs, please turn up the lights!
Shakespeare said: Under bright lights, a beautiful woman, like fine jewellery, sparkles with radiance. Hey, there's an idea if someone wants a research project: did strippers perform in semi-darkness in Shakespeare's day, same as they do now?
