Why are the Winnipeg Jets so hot right now?

Holy crap, the Jets are 13-1-0. From what I've seen, they've got pretty much of the same lineup they had six or seven years ago. What the actual eff? Luck? Better coaching?

Do they have a new coach this year, or was that last year?(Bowness retired, Arneil in)

3 reasons

1. Goaltending. Hellebuyck is a top 3 goalie in the NHL
2. Defense. Its big, its physical and its experienced. Morrissey will be on Team Canada. Pionk is an outside shot to make the US roster.
3. Special teams. Their PP is clicking at a 42% clip. That is otherworldly. They are average on the PK but room to improve.

Do I see them keeping this pace up, obviously not. But they should finish top of the Central West due to the Avalanche's slow start.

Same GM since 2011 but Arniel was just hired in May 2024. He played for the Jets for 4+ seasons in the early 80's.

HaHa!!! I'm old enough to remember Arneil as a player. The thing I remember most was that he and Hawerchuck were teammates in junior, and then were taken in the same draft by the Jets.

Your true calling might have been in hockey analytics, lol. And I just checked, Winnipeg played this afternoon and won again. They're now 14-1-0.

And they are beating good teams as well. Their only loss ironically is against the Leafs.

40% plus success rate PP is not sustainable. Jets PP last season was 18.8%
Jets have always been a good regular season team. Sometimes teams go on runs.
They ended last regular season winning 8 straight and finished with 110 pts.
President's Trophy winner had 114. Jets didn't just come out of nowhere.

Last 3 games Leafs PP started clicking and they won all 3 of those games.
Hellebuyck 1.91 GAA .932 SV%
Stolarz 2.00 GAA .930 SV%
If the Leafs can sustain a 40% plus PP success rate for a couple more games they also can go on a heater considering the way Stolarz is playing.

Been to a recent live Jets game and no passengers on the team. Epitome of teamwork. Crisp passing. Supportive forechecking. Great goaltending. Two power play units are smoking hot. Other teams should be checking Jets and either copying the formula or find a weakness cause they can win with defense or with a blowout

Boston 2 years ago was on a heater for the full regular season then lost in the first round to a team that backed into the playoffs.

Jets were a good team last year. Didn't really help themselves in the summer, lost a few middle pieces, but kept the entire core and a decent amount of young base. Lots of continuity which is a good thing in the NHL.

The easiest way to note a poor NHL analyst is one that relies on who made trade deadline moves or summer moves to decide who will win (or decline) as they are incapable of deciphering teams without noting "change". Those were likely the same "analysts" that hought the Jets were going to take a big fall.this year because they had a slightly negative offseason.

That being said as mentioned a few times this 150 point pace is based on an unsustainable PP rate. They will fall back, but will still be very good.

I was surprised last year by their early playoff exit. They have a powerful talented team with a Vezina trophy winning goalie.
