Hopefully with my face in a pussy
David Suzuki had a hypothesis on that, I believe it went like this: When you look at Japanese or Chinese characters in order to read, your brain needs to assemble and decipher a lot of critical information from what appears to be a jumbled mess. He had the idea that this may have trained the brain to look for patterns in an equation and find them more easily.

I believe its the education system they have back home. I still remember we were pushed to learn multiplications by heart form 1 t0 24. something like 12x5=60, 24x12=288 and such since we were in grade 4. Most of the Asians have some small family business and they are so used to handling money everyday while helping run the family business which is like a practise in math. I was amazed at an American sales lady in New Jersey last yr that she needed a calculator to give me back change for a $12.50 item I bought when i gave her a 20 dollar bill at a clothing store. Most of the kids here are so used to the calculators and such they never use their brain any more. Its all about hands on practise and studying hard.

I wonder how good the Europeans are. They did produce Gauss and the like.

North America appears to be on the bottom in many areas.

When people say Asian, do they mean Chinese and Japanese people, or do they mean Asians as in the people that live in Asia including Russians? I'm Persian myself and I've never gotten a single math mark below a 90%.

Didn't the Chinese invent the abacas(sp) and the slide rule? I would have thought Egpytians would be equally adept at math because they allegedly drew up the blueprint for the pyramids(sp).

Hmmmm not sure maybe it has something to do with having such a complex written language, a cultural focus on education, heck even some of thier folk heroes are philosophers and made famous by stories of bright things that they did. Also, as a culture they have been doing intellectual stuff long before other cultures so maybe that head start found its way into the gene pool.

You'll be supprised, LOL. With the way Asian agencies run in general, they might make more in the long run. Ever heard of the term "factory like"? So again, who is better at math?

This is a case of finding the point of intersection of functions. Gets a little tricky to try and model the effect of price on number of clients and thus revenue.

If I have to pick a people best at math in the classroom I'll pick
East Indian rather than Chinese students. Go grab a major journal
in the sector of electrical and communication engineering and
you'll see my point. Anyway I don't really believe EI or Asians
in general are innately better at math than Caucasians. I
suspect the one factor that account for the disparity between the
east and west is merely that North America high schools provide
the dinkiest high school mathematics education among all developed
and developing countries. That is not necessarily a bad thing as it makes
education more accessible to the dummies. From my experience of
attending HS in Canada from the 80s the OAC courses in calculus
and algebra were like a piece of cake compared with the British GCE
Advanced level courses which itself were dinky compared with similar levels
from other Asian countries. Less than affluent countries couldn't afford to
provide education to everyone and hence their student's have to be
smarter to survive.
