Who will look after you when you get really old?

I'm asking this because I moved back home because my father has dementia/alzheimer. Not planning any kids but my mom tells me I should have kids so someone will look after me when I become their age and am unable to fend for myself. Personally I rather die healthy, strong and not too old but of course I can't choose when to die unless I do it myself.

I don't have siblings so in case I never marry or have kids I'm by myself with thoughts of moving into an old folks home. What is your back-up plan?

Go to Amsterdam in First Class Plane seat. Screw around, get high, then drunk, then Screw some more, and come back in the cargo with my lawyer waiting for me to have me cremated and have one of many cousin kids dropp my ashes in the ocean.

I don't need anyone to look after me,

because I won't live past 50.

It came to me in a dream,

in the dream I woke up in cold sweat and crushing pain in my chest,

then nothing, blackness

no more.

When my money runs out from paying for health care in the US, I will go to the danish consulate and ask them to
send me back to Denmark.

Maybe those who choose an early exit should get taxed at a lower rate or get a nice little rebate check at the end? Perhaps they should get an escort of their choice paid for by the government?

They'll be saving us a shitload of money - the least we could do is make it painless, dignified, legal and something to look forward to.

My grandfather is 101 years old and needs constant attention. Luckily my 96 year old grandmother is still around. She still gets around like somone in their late 60's or early 70's. Plus there are a lot of relatives around here to lend a hand when needed.
I don't plan on ever getting that old. I'll be lucky if I see 70. I don't want to be a burden on anyone. I already know that I'll pass by massive heart attack. A moment of pain and then nothing.... Lucky I guess.
I already have my funeral planned, purchased insurance to pay for it. I'll be cremated, burried on the Rez. in an "urn" that I made for myself, it depicts aboriginal lore and the ascension of the spirit to the heavens on the wings of an eagle.
A bit morbid maybe but death is one thing that we all have in common.

Robbing banks until they put you in prison, where you'll get free room and board and your bum wiped if you're elderly.

Or shot.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Taking care of a loved one, especially one with Alzheimer takes a terrible toll on the caregiver(s). Sad to say, the worst days lie ahead. Take care of yourself and never feel guilty if you feel you did not handle every incident perfectly. There are no textbook solutions. You are a good son. Good luck.

heart attacks aren't what their cracked up to be...my grandmother who is in her late 80s hard a heart attack/stroke and is now bedridden. heart attacks are fine if you actually die, but if you don't.....
That's why the .44 magnum handgun is a better choice! ;)

I got a 20 year younger SO. Hopefully that will take care of my needs. If I get Alzheimer I hoping that I can talk Jack Kevorkian out of retirement. No way I want to be last remembered as a drolling idiot with shit filled diapers. (Exception : the Terb parties)

In the end you have to hire someone because there ain't no way I'm having my daughter change my diapers. She can pay the bills out of my account and visit me a couple of times a month but that's all. I also suspect that when I'm 80 I'll be as grumpy and "preachy" or grumpier than either old jones or danmand so I'll have to pay someone just to put up with me.

A fatal heart attack sounds good once you become less mobile, my father would have been happier if he his stroke had killed him and he missed the last two years of his life.

I get a kick out of those who say, "I know how and when I'm going to go." Whattaloadocrap. Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - knows in advance. Even if it's a planned suicide, things go wrong, the gun misfires or you miss and you're left a drooling idiot for an extra 20 years, etc etc.

But to the point; who's gonna look after me when I'm too old ? I've got no kids, no wife. Brother and sister, sure, but by the time my bones are creaking they'll be pretty close to the same situation. So in truth I have no fucking idea.

That's right, you're too short, too fat, too ugly, and no-one likes you. Get over it.
i picture him looking like hank' dad cotton from king of the hill. shins got blown off and walks really funny. it helps me to laugh at him and his more then annoying personality.
