Seriously, fuck, get with the times. It's not like 3010 and a VCR is actually a collectors' antique. I have 4 of them in my basement I would like to sell, slightly used, how about um.....$559 FIRM EACH! They all have the auto-"ejeculator" function!

There are some commercial-grade VCRs that cost that much.

There was a dalliance with digital VHS (D-VHS) some years ago.

Really? But what can a VCR do splendidly that a $40 Walmart DVD player cannot do? What business (besides tapes used in professional sporting events/shows for playback) would still reequire a VCR? Sorry, just need to know.

If it's DVHS, it can record in HD, and a DVD recorder cannot. I would probably pay $500 for a DVHS recorder if it had an ATSC tuner.

In this particular case, the Samsung SV-5000W plays European, as well as North American format video tapes (NTSC, PAL, and SECAM). Brand new, the unit retails for ~$1000.

BTW, there are professional VCRs that can cost many times that. For example, here are commercial VCRs that can cost up to $2000:

So how can DVHS record in HD? I mean do you have to buy the special DVHS tapes? And where, not Walmart for sure. Because the normal VHS tapes surely cannot record HD in those ribbons. Interesting, thanks guys, I learned something new today.

Yes, you need to get special tapes, which are difficult to find since nobody is manufacturing DVHS machines anymore as far as I know. I've heard you can use high grade VHS but you need to drill a hole in the case to trick the machine.

They record digital data on the tape unlike VHS which is analog. The quality is close to Blu-ray.

I gave up on VHS when my 10-15 year old tapes turned to mush. Operationally, I actually prefer using VHS tapes over DVD. For example, when I stop a VHS recording I can re-start a new recording almost immediately. With DVD I have to wait at least 30 seconds:mad: .
