I posted this same question in the Sports forum but not sure if it's totally sports related since this is a phrase being mentioned:

I have a bet with a friend of mine who says "Red Sox Nation" goes all the way back to the 20's as for the phrase that is known to all Boston Red Sox fans. I disagree and just heard recently that the phrase came from a few local Boston sports fans who started this with the resurgence of baseball and finally winning a championship!
Does anyone know when exactly this supposed "Red Sox Nation" came about?I could really benefit from information on this. It is actually worth $500 to me!
hehehe...

That's what I'm talking about! I actually heard the phrase less than a year ago when NESN a New England based Sports Station decided to use this slogan as a moto for their team. Unless someone has proof in a history of the Boston Red Sox and their logo as "Red Sox Nation" I see myself winning this wager!

Had some extended work assignments in Eastern Mass over 10 years ago. Saw "Red Sox Nation" in a couple bars and something in one of the suburban Boston papers, so it is certainly nothing really new.

Not sure when it started but definitely before the championship, at least 6 yrs, used to go there every year for seafood.

My dad tells me that with the Philadelphia Flyers of the 70's being the "Broad Street Bullies" that the fans were called the "Flyer Nation" at that time as well.

Every so often, when games get rough the reference of Broad Street Bullies.
