China to increase tariffs on US imports from 34% to 84%

China says it will raise tariffs on U.S. imports from 34% to 84% this week in response to President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariff announcement.
Chinese officials have vowed to fight "to the end" amid a trade war with the U.S. The new tariff level is set to take effect on April 10, according to a Wednesday statement from China.
“If the U.S. insists on further escalating its economic and trade restrictions, China has the firm will and abundant means to take necessary countermeasures and fight to the end,” the Ministry of Commerce wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
Trump raised tariffs on China to 104% at midnight on Wednesday after China responded to the initial tariff announcement with a hike of its own.

I think Trump does have the upper hand over all but one of the
tariffed countries on his hit list. His one misjudgment could
prove fatal.

What's going to happen next? The tariffs are getting paid by the companies that import the goods right? So its going to end on the consumer.

The real trouble is that the US is a highly protectionist economy for durable goods. US vehicle regulations for example are way out of synch with the rest of the world. China is already selling cars into Europe and the BRICs. The US doesn't because their cars don't meet Euro regs, which are the defacto rest-of-the-world regs. Even electricity is different in north america vs. the rest of the world, so appliances aren't synched.

Sticking with cars, in order to become an export economy, new models would need to be developed (3-5 years), more factory capacity built (3-5 years), AND the models would have to been unbelievably good and unbelievably cheap. This would require the best designers and engineers (who are leaving the US), and the cheapest labour (Chinese factory labour is about $3.5/hr).

So the only way for this to work out for the US is to keep the tariffs on for a decade, and for some magic to happen where the US workers can afford goods that are 100% more expensive while earning $3/hr.

This Trump staff is clueless.

Looks like he folded again. :ROFLMAO:
Who folded? He increased the tariff against China to 125% because they're disrespectful.

The tariff tit-for-tat between the U.S. and China escalated again Wednesday, with President Donald Trump saying that he is immediately raising the tariffs on Chinese goods to 125% over Beijing’s "lack of respect" toward America, while pausing and lowering reciprocal tariffs on other countries.

"At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable," Trump posted on his Truth Social media platform.

Trump wrote that more than 75 other countries have called U.S. representatives to "negotiate a solution" to the subjects relative to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-monetary tariffs. He added that these countries, "at my strong suggestion," have not retaliated in any way against America.

Trump wrote that his reciprocal tariffs on other countries would be paused for 90 days, during which the tariff rate would be 10%.

He folded. He's using China as a way out of fucking everything up.

At some point math and logic kicks in. :ROFLMAO:
