I am surprised nobody started a thread with this title already. I noticed a few pople did mention in another thread where they were and what they did etc... but mostly that thread got turned into 'other topics'.

So me: I was at my desk at work and infact had just pushed submit post button to post a reply to another thread. Suddenly the computer crashed and all the lights went out. About 1/2 dozen people in my office were heard saying "Oh darn". lol. Then everyone started walking around in circles trying to figure out what to do and what happened. I was the first one to look out the window and noticed that the traffic lights were out and building accross the street there was no lights. Everyone started to phone home or freinds and we soon figured out it was all over the city. Little did I know till later after a 45 mins walk to my watering hole in The Annex that it was all over Ont and NY. When I got there the place (that normally only has about 1/2 doz regulars at that time) was packed. Good thing Suzie had some candles stashed away... as it got dark we lite them up and partied on. Good thing there was a 'state of emergency' declared and subways were not running Friday morning... cause I was having a bit of an 'emergency' my self and really was in no shape to come into the office. lol. Hope you all had a good a time as I did.

Subway.

Other than some chick that just wouldn't shut up and kept asking the TTC conductor if she could have a smoke, it was okay. When she heard that a passenger on another train was claustrophobic and panicing, guess who started to develop similar symptoms.
We were in there about 30 minutes before they let us out through the tunnel to a nearby emergency exit. They probably would have done it sooner but were worried that the power might come back on a fry somebody.
I've lived in Toronto all my life and this was a first for the subway. In our case, the TTC handled our situation well.

Oh yeah, other than miss-wouldn't-shut-up, there were two lovely ladies that made me wish they didn't let us out.

Indeed, in my experience, the Canadian answer to the electricity outage was to switch to alcohol fueled entertainment. My local pub was packed too. Quite the party...
