Closest I think to TO is St. Andrews by the Sea N.B.

Best place, bar none:

St. John's Newfoundland.

Drive a half hour south to the famous O'Brien's Charters. Whale watching and bird watching - pretty amazing. Earlier in the season you might see some icebergs too.

If you then go north from St. John's, to Trinity - drive north again to Bonavista. I have fond memories of picnicking at a coastal park in Bonavista -and watching a pod of whales (humpbacks) frolic just off the coast - for hours - when you see them, you can't tear yourself away from them.

I saw more whales there than in Nova Scotia, B.C., Alaska, combined.

Combine Tadoussac with a trip to Quebec City. It's about 130 km away. I've gone whale watching there twice and saw tons of them (excuse the pun). Lots of tour operators from zodiac operators to big boats.

Was to BC with the family in June. We saw 2 Killer Whales and 1 Humpback from a distance on the BC Ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy.

There were many whale watching tours available in Victoria Harbour which tended to be a tourist trap. Couldn't shake the wife and kids in the Butterfly Gardens in order sign on to the Beaver Watching Extravaganza at the local SC. Then again, probably easier finding good mushrooms than a risque bar in Victorian Victoria.

Was in St. Andrews last September and went whale watching. Unbelievable!

There are different charters but we went with large tour boat. I almost went with the smaller boats thinking they were faster and you could get closer to the whales but the girl at the office for the large boat charter sold me on their charter.

I was glad we did. Great lookout points on the top deck (got some amazing pictures). We watched the smaller boats scooting around from one spot to the next trying to get close but they didn't see anything near what we saw. The whales came right up next to our boat and we even had a couple of breaches (apparently this is fairly rare).

Of course you also get to see seals, harbour porpoises, eagles....etc.

Great experience and St. Andrews is a beautiful little town. If you can afford it, a stay at the old Algonquin Hotel (Fairmont) is worth while too as well as a round of golf at the Algonquin Golf Course. First class all the way.

There's a Fairmont

in St. John's - which, by the way, is Canada's prettiest city.

Don't say I didn't tell you about Newfoundland. More whales there than all the others mentioned combined.

oh looking,

I like New Brunswick; Nova Scotia too. But there are simply more whales off the Newfoundland coast. Don't know enough about whales to tell you why.

Every province has their highlights:

But Newfoundland has more than their fare share, including:

Trinity; Twillingate(the iceberg capital of the world); Gros Morne National Park (which puts Cape Breton National Park to shame); L'Anse aux Meadows (the first Viking settlement and an Unesco world heritage site; Cape St. Mary's, etc.

(and the best whale watching...)

My sister went to Tadoussac, northeast of Quebec City, for her honeymoon. Closest place to Toronto, a grand old hotel like St. Andrews, and sexy French atmosphere. Oh, and lots of whales, especially belugas.

First of all, I'm not disagreeing with you. LordLoki asked us to share information on whale watching and I offered my experience. It wasn't intended to create a debate, it was inteded to be helpful.

You're a real piece of work. You presume yourself to be superior to everyone else yet you want to have an argument over who has the best whale watching? You obviously have inadequacies you're attempting to cover. I don't know what they are and I really don't care.

It seems you have experience with the Atlantic Provinces and their people. I'm not sure if it's true but I do know one thing for certain, if you talked to them like you talk to people here, someone would have used you for a boat anchor.

No. That's not true. They would have ignored your pompous ass. Just like I'm going to do. This will be my last post to you.

Carry on.
