I want to buy an office-grade scanner (i.e., fast with autofeed) but, obviously (;)), I don't want to pay full price and used would suffice. Where does office equipment go when offices shut down? Is there a clearance centre?

You can try Ebay for starters.

Also, Staples sometimes has out-of-box display models for sale.

As a last resort, you could cruise Value Village for any leftovers.

If the scanner is not needed soon, I would recommend saving up for a brand new all-in-one printer that scans, copies, prints, and faxes (not so important).

I like the top-of-the-line HP OfficeJets. Someday, I'll get one.

Don't want that. I'm looking for a dedicated scanner.

Check for auctions in the Globe & Mail. You'll often find good-quality office wares at these places.

I don't know if they could help, but try calling a place like Ikon (http://www.ikon.com/) and see if they have access to refurb equipment. Ikon tends to lease a lot of equipment to corporations so at the end of the lease, they take everything back. I'm not sure what happens to it at that point though.

It's also probably worthwhile to call HP & Kodak directly as well to see if they have refurbs available.
