Where to buy the best earphones in Toronto?

I like to transcribe songs a lot, and often do it when I go out too, using several apps on my two ipod touches simultaneously. It works, but the sound quality is not as good as when I transcribe at home, and I need to hear precisely to transcribe properly. I don't want headphones because I want to carry everything in my pocket. Anyone with good experience on which earphones I should get in order to hear every note correctly in a song? I'm willing to spend a good couple of hundred dollars.

Oh, and I also want to ask: Is there such a thing as an adapter for earphones to be connected to 2 ipods? I use ipod apps simultaneously and I cannot switch apps and do my transcribing properly, so I need to have 2 ipods at the same time.

Thanks, I'ved looked at those (and was shocked that some prices go as high as $500 or more), but I was hoping to be able to test them out first before buying them. Does anyone know of good stores here in Toronto where I can do that, hopefully specializing in this sort of thing?

So you want to put earphones in that some other nasty person tried on then if you don't like them let other people shove your earwax coated earphones in their ears? read some reviews and roll the dice.

another option is some of the headphones made for travelling. They fold up and some have noise cancelling options.

The klipsch s4 budphones are a step above all other earphones on the market and cost less than $100.

Purchase earbuds from Bay Bloor. Salesguy was very patient and wiped down each pair after I tried them on. Considering how expensive the damn things are, I think trying them on before buying is the only way to go.

Go to a music store and get a good pair of studio reference models. Might cost you a couple of hundred bucks but it'll sound better then almost all consumer gear.
Sennheiser and Sony seem to be really good these days.

For transcription, on mac I use a program called transcribe

But this is about transcribing while on the go. I use the iComposer app, an MP3 slowdown app, and a piano app simultaneously. Hence I need to use 2 iTouches at the same time because switching among the three apps constantly is very frustrating. Is there a way to connect my earphones to 2 ipods?

senheiser and grado are both good companies that haven't been mentioned yet.

technics makes headphones geared towards djs but I think they are popular due to their sturdiness and volume. Not sure if they make earphones.

Nowadays they will tell you the frequency response (which is the highest and lowest tone that the phones can produce)

Sensitivity is rated in decibels .... the higher the number the better. This is a measure of how little power is required to produce sound. So the higher the rating the same signal should be louder than in a pair with a lower sensitivity.

Is noise cancelling important? I would think so for trying to listen to something closely.

the way it fits in your ear. needs to be comfortable and not fall out.

Buuuut at the same time since you are using mp3 files maybe you don't need super high end earphones since the sounds quality is less than a cd. Your limiting factor to sound quality on the go might be the file format.

Anyways I just have a casual interest in audio equipment and what not so this is about the extent of my knowledge.

As with anything the sky is the limit for price but the real question is at what point are you paying for stuff you don't need?

Those shure's look good the low end is 19 hz..... human ear stops at 20 hz for bass...... but on the high end it stops at 19 khz. there are higher sounds that you can discern.

Looks like they have some features to address a good fit.

But they run you 480 at longe and mcquade.

Maybe try something in 100 range or even less in a store and if it does your purpose call it a day.

moogaudio on queen west near spadina might be a good place as well..... lots of dj gear, studio stuff and recording devicees and what not. Also have a detailed website.

play de record would also carry stuff.

I think moog has more stuff laid out that you cvan touch.

I think I'll go to Long and Mcquade today, since it's near my home. But since their Shure SE535 costs $480, I might get one of their cheaper models like the $99 Shure SE215 (maybe their $200 Shure SE315) which they state is a "sound isolating earphone." (as one guy stated, the main problem of transcribing notes might not be the quality of the earphones but the fact that I'm listening to MP3s)

As for connecting it to 2 ipods, I can get the $36 Shure replacement cable and put one ear bud on it, so then I'll have two single-piece Shure earphones connected to two iTouches. If any experts think my plan is bad, please tell me.

I find "sound isolating" earphones annoying. All it means is that the plastic/rubber buds seal off your ear canal. Tends to grow uncomfortable after a while. I've been using Monster Studios to watch movies on by ipad and they've been pretty good.

There are a couple of apps, iHearit and iLift that might also be good, but none have a keyboard at the same time, your solution is probably the best for now.
