Any date set for when it becomes the law of the land?

No firm date yet, but probably end of November.

Not until the Governor-General signs it. If there is no wording in the Bill setting out some other date, it's the law at that point, although you could make a case that it shouldn't affect you in the brief time until it's publicly proclaimed by appearing in the Canada Gazette.

Before all that Royal Assent stuff happens there's a small matter of finishing up our democratic participation, which is still underway. Our popularly elected representatives decided in very short order and with little consultation of the people that this was just what we shoulda had long ago. Now the men and women chosen for their wisdom are considering how long they'll pretend to give it sober second thought before voting as Harper wants.

There's still a tad of time to buy what's selling without being a criminal.

Couldn't help but snicker when you said "democratic participation".

This is something I am planning on doing also. Not sure how it will pan out as I am a MP person, not sure if the attendants are willing to meet outside of the parlor.
Anyone ever set something like that up?

They came up with the bill back in June. The SCC decision was stayed for one year, meaning the ruling comes into effect on December 19, 2014. If Bill C36 is not passed into law before then, the existing laws will be struck down with no replacement in place.

Which isn't to say that if C-36 isn't fully enacted by then that it can't just be enacted 2 weeks later or whenever the government gets around to it (although I think they will have it done before they go on their 3 or 4 month Christmas break).
