I have been using Canoe.ca as my home page as well as Yahoo on and off. What do you use and why is it useful?

metacrawler.com

It's my favorite search engine, because it doesn't use bots, it searches the results of other seach engines, to get the best results up front. A query that gives 10,000,000 results on google will probably give 75 on Metacrawler, but you'll probably find what you're looking for on the first page.

Metacrawler's awful if you want to search for audio, video, or pictures, and it's not pretty to look at, but it gets the job done for me, more than 95% of the time.

Yup. I've never used Metaspy, though.

A long time ago, Metacrawler used to have e-mail and instant messenger services. It seems to be a more popular search engine in Latin American countries. Then again, I used to be thefriendlystranger@metacrawler.com, so they were either trying to make new friends, or trying to buy weed online. I had a few unsolicited instant messages that just said Hola, so I can't be sure.

The poster shown in my previous post is now available in two fonts, named BewarethefriendlystrangerNorml and BewarethefriendlystrangerLandscape. Both fonts use only the lower case letter a to produce an oversized version of this classic Reefer Madness propoganda poster. The Landscape version prints sideways, for maximum width.

The font glyph is so big that, when the Norml version is used at 72 points, the left and right margins have to be set at 0.1 inches for an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, or the page won't be wide enough for the single character.

For the time being, this is the only place you can get it:
