Christopher Walken's career was just beginning when he played Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire off Broadway, his co-stars were Susan Sarandon and Piper Laurie. Robert De Niro was in the audience and was so impressed that he got Walken and Sarandon an audition for his next project The Deer Hunter. Walken got the role but Sarandon lost out to Meryl Streep.

Piper Laurie as Blanche was the headliner, she had won an Oscar for The Hustler. Her next film hadn't come out yet.

That scene is my all time favourite scene from any film. Absolute classic!!!! GB
And a great deal of truth to it. In the 9th Century the Arabs invaded Italy and for a brief time there were minarets at St Peter's. However, unlike Spain, Napolitan and Genovese pirates took control of the Mediterranean eventually putting Carthage to the torch. The Arabs were left stranded and assimilated into the local population.

Great scene but for me this is the greatest scene of all time.
