I know there is already a thread for 2000, so i'd thought i'd start one for 1990. So how was the hobby scene back then (before the internet as we know it). Prices, quality of service, etc?

i heard that pre-TERB, there was USENET, but I'm not sure if USENET was being used much in 1990.

Why do you need this information? Are you planning on going back in time? Do you want to feel like you missed out when you start hearing the stories of all the lower prices?

Maybe I can start a thread for 1980, 1970; maybe we can check the history books for 1890 too? :)

the 1890s would have been awesome; red light districts in New York, New Orleans, etc.

the old West in the 1870s - the brothel was upstairs from the saloon in every town

the 90's were full of flanel, torn jeans and optional showers.

T.O.
NOW was the only game in town; print ads and no pics. Lots of indies; I don't recall there being much agency presence.

There were wolves roaming the streets of Toronto or was it dinosaurs?
Polar bears, it was the ice age!

An old geezer told me about the early 70s, when there was ads for girls offering shoe shines in their apartment. For $5 the girl will shine your shoes, the objective of this was that you can see down her blouse. For $5 more you could shine her shoes, the objective of this was that you could see up her skirt. For $5 more you could shine her shoes again, the objective of this was so that you can see up her skirt again but without the obstructive view of her granny panties.
I am sure many of these girls are now grannies today, if the girl was in 20 years old in the 1970 she would be 62 years old today. I am sure many were even older. In 1970 $15 must have been quite a sum of money.

It was. The web protocol wasn't invented until 1991.

Before the web, the internet was mostly email, FTP, usenet and IRC.

How I recall 1990 was AIDS was in the news big time, people thought maybe even just kissing could spread aids. Detroit had a serial killer running loose--whats new, lol but gals were showing up dead every few days, think he killed over 50 of them before he was caught

The late 1980's were great but then came the 1990's.

Wish we could go back to the 80's, Detroit was so cool until drug testing and video cameras came about

Cell phones, the internet are cool but now you need to use them to have some fun. In the past it was just get outside and be seen and there was no way of people back tracking what you were up to. So much shit went down everyday and few got caught, oh yeah, no dna testing either

Today you gotta play by the rules or else

Street walkers and ads in the classified section were the usual means of contact. There were as many as groups of 50 on Jarvis not as many on Younge, lots on Church......$60 to 100 bucks for quality.........Thats what my grandpa said

The nice thing was you could walk up and chat with many SP's and see the gal you thought was best. Now you have to look at sats and pictures and try to guess who you like to see

Before the internet, it was BBS, I think it stood for Bulletin Board System. i could be wrong tho. I remember buying a commodore 64 from crappy tire and had to hookup to BBSs.
