from my limited understanding, chiropractic care only involves the spine, right?
who can analyze problems with the positions of bones and joints and such, and correct them?

Really Retired.....REALLY!
GIve a chriopractor a try, you would be suprised at how knowlegable and helpful they can be with your entire body.
Depending on the joint(s) in question it could very well be related to your spine being out of alignment, incorrect posture, odd walk, etc.
All of which they can help with.

I had my chrio treat me for TMJ (joint dysfunction in the Jaw (too many blow jobs perhaps)) years ago, he gave me exercises and stretches to do and also massaged the proper muscles in the area and hooked up that muscle stimulator machine, even tried to adjust it once or twice but I couldn't handle it (love getting my back cracked though!

Myabe you are looking for acupuncture?? although there are a lot of fake 1s out there.
But if you can find a legit 1, then you are in luck.
what exactly is your problem?

my pelvic bone doesn't seem straight, like it's turned slightly so it sticks out more on one side, on my back (I can feel the difference with my hands)

the side that is more "in" on the back frequently hurts and is sore

interesting, i havent heard anything like that, so not sure about an exact answer. But how about seeing your reg doctor and ask him? i'm sure he can refer you to a specialist??
I think thats what you should do first before looking at others.

Acupuncture can sure help. I had back problems, and was kidna hunchbacked and went to few sessions where i had acupuncture but along with acupuncture there are other things. We would begin with him helping push my spine back to straight. Not hard pushing, just lightly but you do feel it, kinda like a massage i guess.
They would know about all this, whole body, IE: bones, joints etc ,as acupuncture is based on whole body is connected, as eastern medicine is compared to west.

I'm not sure if thats an option that might interest you?

But like i said before theres alot of fakes out there. A true and legit acupuncturist should be able to take your pulse on your wrist and tell you if theres any area on you body that isnt in great shape.
Lot of them will ask you what is wrong with you beforehand , then tell you again what you just told them.

SI Joint?

This may be a problem associated with your SI Joint. That's the sacroiliac joint, where the sacrum and ilius of your pelvis join together. I have some lower back pain, and it was due to this. The pain tends to favour one side and extends down into the leg. My recommendations are the same as above...ie. orthopedic doctor, chiropractor, or even a physiotherapist. Hope this helps.

cheers,

rick

Don't see a chiropractor... they're quacks. They diagnose 'diseases' that you don't have, almost all doctors discredit the unscientific chiropractic theories.

Another problem with them is that they tell patients to see them 3 times a week for the rest of their life for 'wellness care', well if you think that by cracking your back so often you'll be healthy you have another thing coming. When they crack your back, it's the same effect as when you crack your knuckles. The only thing happening are gas bubbles being popped within the synovial fluid of a joint, and if you keep cracking healthy joints you'll be destroying your once healthy joint , and then you'll just need to see your real doctor for treatment.

Chiropractic neck adjustments also can cause strokes.

Often the spine (incl. pelvic) when mis-aligned, arms & feet may be of different length. I speak from experience. My hip often locked from back injury when I was young. When it's locked, I can't bend or turn my hips with pinched nerves. My Chiro would correct that with few manipulation. Chiro are safe as long as you follow the holistic approach: eat health, rest, do stretchs, exercise, live less stressful life.

Neck manipulation are no longer required. Many tense up, myself included, when they pop the neck & lead to potential side-effects.

For other bone related issue, see Ortho specialist.
