Friends,

I have wanted to get a high def tv for 2 years now( we have an older one -not that good really) and everytime I go into one of these stores, the salesman just whip my brain around so much that I do nothing.

Can anyone recommend a really good one that I could buy,

Thanks for any help,

Assuming money is no object.............The one your neighbor buys 30 days after you get yours, is the best.

Does not matter what you bu, come Christmas you will not have one as good as you could get. The trick is you are happy with your purchase stop shopping.

Sharp Aquos LCD 1080p
Like he said...Sharp Aquos LCD 42,46,and 52D62U have an amazing picture. The new##D92U models are supposed to be even better.

I just spent a month of researching, and side-by-side comparisons and chose it over the Sony Bravia and XBR2.

The 46" Sharp is at Costco for $2800. With their return policy, it is a no brainer. Same set at FS and BB...$3300.

The Sharp, however, has one major flaw with some units...on a solid light-grey test image you can distinquish horizontal bars. When viewing actual programs, the problem varies from not even noticeable to being slightly noticeable during certain scenes, like solid sky shots in golf. My set does not have this problem , but if I ever notice it, I'll just zip back to Costco for another.

If you want a bigger screen, I was most impressed with the JVC D-ILA 1080p sets @ 65" and 70".

Get one with 1080p if you are ever planning on watching Blu Ray or HDDVDs. I got my 52" 1080i a little over a year ago and am looking to upgrade already.

Here
I got the Olevia 42" LCD and I love it... half the price of a Sony with identical features.

I just bought an lg 37 inch LCD, nice.
But I also have a projector so screen size wasnt an issue. Will it be used for everyday use?
You need to do some reading as there is no best, different features etc.
Some good sites http://www.avsforum.com
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/
As mentioned earlier, what you buy today something new will be out next month.
Dont forget to look at warranties, mine was 2 years where most are
1.
Also remember there are many types, you need to do your homework.

Not bad for JVC. Their DVD players are great but their flat screen honestly never crossed my mind.

Pcmag

PCMAG March 6th issue has an article review of the current HDTV set that are great. Their top choice is:
1. Sharp LC-32D40U
2. NEC 42XR4 ( Plasma)

Go for it. But like always it never looks good with you only at the store.

Vizio uses the highest grade of plasma screen, most mfr's don't.

I also have heard it from inside sources that they have very few returns or defects comparably.
