Canadians and friends:
Recently in Oz a critic ID'ed the top 5 most important/influential Australian films: Picnic at Hanging Rock, Breaker Morant (my fave), Mad Max, Muriel's Wedding, Strictly Ballroom.
It got me wondering - what is the Canadian equivalent of this list? Your thoughts?

I know I'm not answering the question, but my favourite Australian movie was "Careful, He Might Hear You", from 1983...

My favourite Canadian movie was "Dead Ringers", 1988, directed by David Cronenberg.

Regardless of the faults of the filmmaker, it is the film we are judging. Mon Oncle Antoine is still way up there. It will never make the most influential list, but Hot Dog Cops starring the awesome Nicole Morin is a personal favorite.

The Canadian cinema is weak. We have great directors, actors and writers, but they produce their best in America.

Does anyone know what happened to Nicole Morin, who was in Going Down the Road and Hot Dog Cops? She seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth.

How could he not include "Chopper" ? Eric Bana was amazing in it.
Going down the road. comes to mind. Toronto nostalgia. Early 70's nostalgia. Was a very accurate picture of that time and place.

The last I heard of Nicole Morin, she got herself arrested during a protest at the Berlin Wall. She was a mainstay on Party Game.

I'm assuming films made with Canadian funding:

Goin Down The Road
Away From Her
Room
The Fall of The American Empire
Dead Ringers
Prisoners
Ready or Not

To all the trolls bashing Brie Larson, I quote my buddy Prem, eeeey fangula!
