What is an AIR CONDITIONING TAX with Rental Cars? Great Bear's thread no doubt.

Okay, I checked rental cars at YYZ and there is a $0.70 AIR CONDITIONING TAX. WTF is that?

I'm sure GB (great bear) can explain that 4 me...

It's the rental company passing on the AC tax levied on new cars.

I think you can argue to get rid of it, they can raise their prices, but to impose a tax on their own I don't know if they have the legal authority to do that.

Its not a tax though, its a surcharge.
And yes they can add a surcharge, yes they have the legal authority to do that and yes you can haggle with them to have it removed
