What if...

The Government issued you a random, individual, 10 digit number that's sole purpose was for registrarion on websites.

You would still be able create anonymous profiles that the general public would see, but it would make tracking you down for lawsuits and criminal investigations much easier. It would also prevent people from creating "identity theft" accounts. For example... I could not steal your pictures, create an account in your name, and rip people off posing as you. Love scams. Fake charities.

So... the Goverment issues me CA71096-ON78649. Note you know off the hop my general location.
Terb, PornHub, FB, Ashley Madison, POF, all require it for account registration.

Does it solve a lot of problems?

Please discuss.

Since most of the holocaust survivors are now dead, something like that might pass without notice. How about inserting a microchip at birth?

One step forward, two steps back. Think of what the voter suppressionists could do with a tool like that?

Please discuss.

Nah, I'm gonna go have a beer. Hotter than hell today....

This would be a lot like the vax passport system... 🤔 If you don't register with the government, you would lose access to many services you enjoy regularly.

Substitute the word "privileges" for "services' and that's about right...

Of coarse you all noticed, I am in no way suggesting we take away Free Speech. I believe that's a human right. I am only suggesting we do away with anonymity. I mean, if you can back it up, what are you afraid of?

So whistle blowers can go have coitus with themselves?
Sometimes anonymous is good.
Also sometimes things need to be said that are better said anonymously. It isn't always a bad thing. Well unless you are looking to shut someone down.

In Soviet Russia you had freedom of speech. It was in the constitution in black and white. The constitution said nothing about your freedom after you spoke, so you can expect to be black and blue and worse.

Correct me if I am wrong... you don't believe the system is trustable. A constitution can guarantee you specific rights, but you don't think the system can really protect you or those rights.

Because it would be too easy to be abused by "power". There is a reason wire taps are controversial and not legal everywhere. For example.

Should the masses suffer for the few?

Should millions lose rights for the few who abuse them?

On the surface, it seems great. Hold people accountable but the loss of privacy is huge.

I’m not the no side. As much as I would love to see some people held accountable for their postings, I can’t agree with giving up privacy rights. Not yet anyway.

That's a great idea. We could finally have a system that rewards the "good people" and punishes the "bad", you know like the "social credit score" in China. If you support Liberals you automatically get extra points and if you are one of the deplorables Trump

supporters, you get points deducted.

How about if we make voting connected to that same 10 digit number? After all what do you have to hide, let us all see who you vote for and treat you accordingly.

Unfortunately this is just around the corner and there will be many useful idiots that will support it when it gets introduced. You know, to save the children or to save the minorities from the racists.

Hiding behind an IP address allows me to be my most badass self on the internet.
I can be an armchair whatever I'm not qualified to be even.
Take that away from me and I'm just a wimp.

Well the constitution part is from an actual soviet era joke. It's one of my 2 go to when free speech comes up. The other being Ice-T's Freedom of Speech, just watch what you say.

As for the other part, it isn't really about a system. there are things that should be said but would lead to backlash if said unless you can say it privately. I find often I don't post things on facebook or post privately because FB is basically my phone and if I were to lose my account I'd be fucked.

Also the idea that I need a government ID to spout off nonsense on the internet is... weird.
