Funny true Story,
Back in 1990, I tried to go to a lesbian bar (with a straight female friend) called "The Rose" on Parliament. I think it's long gone. I got stopped at the door by a very feminine male bouncer who would not let me in. He told me that it was OK for her to go in, but not me because, "this bar is gay"
Seriously.
My friend got severely pissed off with him and said that it was a straight bar and they wouldn't let a gay guy in, there would be hell to pay. (Actually, what she said was that, "you and a bunch of your buddies would be out protesting with sandwhich boards on")
Anyway, he says to me, "this bar is gay, have you ever been to a gay bar?"
And I say, "of course"
He says, "What are the names of some gay bars in town?"
I say, "I'm from Hamilton, I'm not familiar with the gay bar scene in Toronto" He asks me for ID, which I show him.
He then says, "ARE YOU GAY"
And I say, "no"
"You can't come in"
