What does it take...

Guys, I know this has been discussed before, but what does it take to get a forum devoted just to Ottawa (or maybe to Ottawa-Gatineau). No offense to the Durham/Kingston terbites, but the vast majority of the posts in this forum are for Ottawa.

It's just a pain (as I'm sure it is for them) to have to sift through the threads just to ensure they are from the appropriate region.

I mean, Montreal and Toronto have their own BOARDS - surely (and don't PM me to tell me to stop calling you that) we can devote a forum to the Nation's Capital...

To whom must we appeal?

Good luck

I don't see Ottawa getting its own forum because it just doesn't have the size to justify it. Also, it leaves Durham/Kingston as yet another forum that is too small too exist alone. Besides, there is rarely enough quality stuff going on in Ottawa to warrant treatment on par with Toronto or Montreal.

If you were serious about a change that might improve things, you might consider asking Fred to move Ottawa off of TERB altogether and group it onto MERB instead.

Bah, humbug. It's just laziness and/or mental sloppiness on the part of the admins. They set it up this way because they flunked high school geography and couldn't be bothered to look at a map.

There's nearly a million people in the Ottawa region. More than enough for a dedicated forum.

Forums are not determined by population of the areas in question but by the activity of the members from those areas who post. Take a look at the posts and you'll see that Ottawa when combined with Durham AND Kingston still barely comes close to either the Hamilton or Niagara forums (both with regional populations far less than Ottawa and surrounding areas). In fact, the Niagara and Hamilton forums were once grouped together until the volume grew too plentiful and disparate for one forum and had to be divided.

The reality is that until the Ottawa forum can prove it can produce its own weight in content, there is no justifiable reason to have its own forum. Hell, of the 20 threads on the front page right now, a full quarter of the threads are *not* about Ottawa. Things are not as lopsided as people try to project them.

The admins are not lazy nor sloppy, just realistic. The only way to change things is to step up the production of quality content and tone down the inane chatter. Don't whine about how unfair it is; do something to prove your point.

There is no "location" mentioned in Pallydins address box, but I dont need one. Just by reading his posts, you can tell he is just another loser from TO. Get over the fact that you are NOT the nations capital, get over the fact that you are NOT americans, get over the fact that your sports teams are LOSERS.
Actually, I don't live in TO (and likely dislike the prospect more than you do), I spent many years living in Ottawa, I would never want to be American, and my sports team is the Ottawa Senators. Are you done showing how brainless you are now?

It is this exact preconceived BS that makes Ottawa the least likely place for anyone to visit, which of course is why there is nothing going on there and why there will never be enough to warrant its own forum. It just goes to further show that it's the members who are the problem, not the admins.

Why is this turning in personal attacks again! Guys, your personal BS doesn't belongs here, nor than your bad attitude. If somebody is rude or attacking you, please ignore or, if you can't refrain from personal attack to retaliate, do it with the PM function, not in public.
I'm tired to see some peoples only contributing in starting or fueling fights and I am certain I'm not alone! If the shoe fits, wear it!
I'd love to be a mod! CLICK! No more!

Fair enough, but it was the original poster that started the comparison between Ottawa and Toronto and I merely pointed out that the two are not in any way comparable. I *do* think Ottawa should be comparable to Niagara and Hamilton but it really doesn't outshine either of those forums in any necessity for singular status without Durham included (and both have lesser populations compared to Ottawa).

Of course now that you have the attention of the administrative types, perhaps you can ask why Ottawa doesn't have its own forum (although the answer will likely mirror the posts I've already made). Care to comment, Sheik? :D

I do not apologize to Mojo, who immediately assumed I was a Senators fan and went on about his precious Loafs. The Loafs are what is bad about hockey right now.
what an ass. I dont want or need your forgiveness. You come in here and bitch about TO and the Leafs. painting everyone associated with both as assholes and idiots. Sorry but you spout off like that and well you are going to hear about it. Id be upset too if i was called a Sens fan too so i understand that. But your hate on for TO and the Leafs is sad. Get a grip on that inferiority complex and move on. Im done ( I think)

I'm from Ottawa and am a sens fan.

On one hand, have found it extremely confusing to sort through the postings - mostly Ottawa. On the other hand, can see Pallydin's point about not having enough quality reviews (don't know whether we're to shy to share information or not too many SP's to review). I just hope that we will have more visiting SP's from Montreal/Toronto (who knows? some may decided to stay). This will generate more reviews and substantiate our request for a separate section. Until then, I can understand why we have to be mixed with other regions.

This whole issue of whether or not there are enough posts from Ottawa to justify a forum is a complete and utter non-issue. What on earth difference does it make it make?

It doesn't take any more server space. It won't throw off some kind of delicate ecosystem.

So rather than one forum you get two. They have less volume but the posts are more relevant to visitors.

Like, what's the problem?

Agree totally - also ridiculous that it took 3 pages of flaming and stupid hockey jabs for this thread to get back on track on the issue raised...

If we split Ottawa away from Kingston & Durham, we get one normal-sized and one very small forum...what's the problem with that? If the admns are worried about precedence, Durham & Kingston were already included in the larger forum, so what's the big deal in splitting them off?
