What charity would you want an agency to donate your funds towards?

I was just looking for feedback and advice here.

If you were paying for a service from an agency, and you knew this agency just happened to be doing a charity drive for a certain time frame, what charity type or charity name would you want them to donate to most?

Please feel free to post links. I really don't know much about this, other than I have seen a few other agencies do this in the past, and I want to do the same with TP.

I'm thinking 2 or 3 -2 week drives a year. With so many scams out there I want to be sure that this effort is hitting the right intented purpose directly....without going through too many hands.

Thanks.

How about the free health clinics. We use them and rely on them. It would be great to give back to them and ensure their future for the many people that need them.

Not sure if there is a charity for it but should be, for the group that helps with crimes against sex workers. Again it would be giving back to a worth while cause. If this doesn't exist then the battered womens shelter as Sheik suggested.

Charities that I have supported in the past and would suggest are: battered women's shelters, support groups for working ladies, Sick Kids and especially around Christmas is www.thewish.ca or any legitimate media supported toy drive.

Past experience is that anonymous donations is the best way to give from this industry as there are some people on the boards of those charities that would turn down donations if they knew where some came from.
I agree 100% with everything said.

Homeless people--not the lazy ones but the mentally ill ones.

Sick kids is a good neutral choice. Instead of health clinics you could give to HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer/Cancers below the waist although I admit that might be a buzz killer. Drug rehab clinics, battered women's shelters, and support groups for working ladies is kinda condescending to the staff. You might want to consider green causes as well like saving the Sharks.* All the girls can wear a fake shark fin on their back just above their ass!

Don't "hang me" lol....but I have to say I have know women who have lied-steal from their men. Not all batter women are so "innocent", true its still wrong to hit a women but after seeing some "real bitches" I have to say I feel more incline to help the mentally ill people.

Kids are a good pick too.

Some batter women do stay out of love and never have steal or done anything, those are very sad cases.

Along the line that Sheik is thinking I think that something that supports people who have been roughed up by the dark side of this biz would be good. Womens drug and alcohol rehab, along these lines.

Wouldn't the best way to help women harmed by this business be to just quit hobbying all together so the abuse will end? Like a boycott of the industry since you acknowledge that it ruins the lives of countless women? It's very self-destructive to the industry's image to keep advancing the "Save the Hookers" cause so loudly. Sex workers need to portray themselves more as successful, professional, independent, and strong women if they want to gain more legitimacy in society. Not as victims of the trade they ply.

Recently I was presented with a business proposal where part of pitch if you will is: that a % of the income generated by me would be donated to the charity of my choice in my name.

I may or may not get involved in the future sometime... I don`t know but the idea set me to thinking: what charity would I choose?

There are so many good causes/charities out there (yes I know some are shams) and some (of the good ones) are dear to my heart for whatever reasons... so what one to choose.

After some thought I decided I would choose: Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness http://www.ccfaa.com/

So how about all you all... what charity/cause would you choose or what is your fav?

just curious/discuss

I find if you have to ask yourself, it's best to donate to the "me, myself and I" fund this way you know how it's being used.
I personally do not donate anymore because in every foundation someone non-deserving always gets a cut.
Wow, glad that not many people are as bitter and as selfish as the above poster when it comes to charity. The only worse comment was the poster who only donated to the NDP.

I suppose charities that are female related are the ticket. Since breast cancer already has so much publicity and fund raising, how about Canadian Cancer Society or Princess Margaret specifying its to be used for the fight against cervical cancer. There is a gynny clinc at Princess M for instance. Woman's shelters would also be a good choice.

how about the food banks or churches

food is always needed by low income family's especially now that it's getting close to Christmas

churches or the salvation army collect clothes blankets and toys as well as food to help out those in need

The Unitarian Service Committee of Canada sound like a nice bunch. Although I haven't supported them yet, I probably will at some point.

As another option, a lot of the homeless shelters send out crews in vans to distribute food, medicine and clothing to street people. That's my favorite charity.

If you can't make up your mind, there's the United Way, although it might be a bit too controversial for some of the members here.

I agree the causes mentioned are all worthy, but I believe we can all agree that Sick Kids does great and much needed work.

The Salvation Army is there if you need them. They may be Christian based, but that does not detract from the huge good they do in so many areas.

Donate the money raised to a political party. You get a decent tax credit under $500. Kidding aside, I like charities that help purchase presents for children during Christmas along with those that support battered women’s shelters.
