For all the luxury and features, let alone the location and view, 18.7 million seems reasonable. I've seen $10 million houses that look very ordinary.

I like watching these vids. The one that impressed me was Minecraft creater Markus Persson's house. David Spade just bought a new one which raises the question why does he rate such wealth?

It all depends where the property is. In the State of Georgia there are people that build steel warehouses where they put a façade outside to look like a chateau in France and inside is a 8 bedroom house with a lavish entry, a pool out back and a 6 car garage. When they sell they get less than 2 million because there is no view or any natural water around it. People call them McMansions.

looks so dated compared to today's design
Well. It is old. But it's Arthur Ericson. So that's something. I used to drive by it in West Van on odd rainy days. Don't know what I was doing up in that neck of the woods, but I noticed the cascading steel imitating a waterfall or something going off the side of the property and I thought...."that's cool. I am dated by today's design.

There is no shortage of videos on Youtube of abandoned mansions visited by urban explorers. Mansions are abandoned all the time for various reasons. The owner got too ambitious and believed the money will come rolling in in perpetuity. The money maker passed and the money was split between too many kids to keep the place up. The DEA showed up at the door. Except to show the next guy you are better than he is, why would you want one of these places? If I had to live in one of these places I would have to walk around strapped with my Browning 9MM all the time for fear that someone would break in to rob me.
