Mansions are abandoned all the time for various reasons. The owner got too ambitious and believed the money will come rolling in in perpetuity. The money maker passed and the money was split between too many kids to keep the place up. The DEA showed up at the door. Except to show the next guy you are better than he is, why would you want one of these places? If I had to live in one of these places I would have to walk around strapped with my Browning 9MM all the time for fear that someone would break in to rob me.
