What’s with Canadian Tire these days?

I had pretty much given up on my local store at Keele/St.Claire Ave.

I actually drove right by it today, to shop at a different Canadian Tire on Eglinton Ave.
I wanted to buy a catalogue-featured item, an inexpensive video camera #199-0336-0 but past experience told me that when I finally did find one of their disinterested, surly staff at the St.Claire store, he/she’d tell me that, “Sorry, we had had four originally, but they're all sold.”

Were I ever to get the staffer to check the computer, he’d inevitably say something along the lines of “The Lakeshore Ave store has sixteen left…”

Apart from ordering what I assume is the minimum amount of these “loss leader” items, of which there is probably almost no profit, and suggesting another (more expensive) brand, an illegal marketing practice called “bait and switch” the management of this particular store distinguishes itself by its seeming non-existence.

It used to be that I’d walk around what seemed like the entire store trying to find something, without seeing a single redshirt to ask, only to find a gaggle four or five of them, chatting somewhere as a group.

What kind of manager allows that?

Not that the Crappy Tire redshirts at this store were ever particularly useful, regardless. Ask three of them the same, “Where can I find…“ question, and you’d get three different, sulky answers. All wrong, and all seemingly guesses. But it would sort of narrow it down. Somewhere between aisle 48 and 55.

The little elves at a Walmart, by contrast, not only know their store, but will drop what their doing in a heartbeat, and DRAG you over to the item you want and point right at it.

Well, the trip to the Eglinton store was a waste of time too. I showed the redshirt a picture, and he says, Oh, we didn’t get any of those. The ‘such and such’ store has them…”

What a place.

To hell with them.

I think I’ll be doing a consumer boycott.

Certainly, if I had any stock in the damn company, I’d sell it.

Try the two downtown stores. One on Yonge and the other on Dundas. I found the staff there are willing to go the extra step to find the item you are seeking. BTW: Their computer system is not always reliable. It might show an item in stock when it really is not.

I love Canadian tires, some are franchises and others are Corporate. The franchises ones can tell you to go fuck yourself if they wanted too however, I have never had a bad with a franchises Canadian Tire. I live in the suburbs, it might be a different experience compared to one in the city.

These stores are all franchised, if the staff is terrible, it's the owner/manager's fault. CT is one of the few chains that will react to complaints about shoddy service if you contact the head office.

I also find the Yonge store to have a lenient return policy. I have returned stuff rather late and although I don't get a cash refund they often give a store credit IF THEY STILL CARRY THAT ITEM.

The very same manager that hires brainless 'tards to work in the store and pay them that absolute minimum required by law.

Pay them bananas and you'll get monkeys.

CDN Tire has a f*ck up computer system. It will indicate another store has so many of a specific item in stock, but do not count on it. If you want satisfaction, call customer service and complain. They do not care all the time, if they piss you off ask to speak to a supervisor and then explain the situation again and say that you are cutting up you CDN tire credit card up an switching to Presidents Choice. That seems to work every time, they do not like loosing credit card members.
That is when things start to happen. Once they even gave me $20 in CDN Tire money I did not ask for.

Walmart ain't any higher in terms of standards in customer service. it all comes down to how much they're getting paid (the minimum required by law) and you'll get exactly what they're paid to do..(the minimum)

In my case, I was told on the phone that the Yonge store had the item in stock according to their computer. When I got there in person, they couldn't physically find the item so they called the Dundas store. I asked them to ask the Dundas store to put a hold on the item but they wouldn't. When I got to the Dundas store the item was still on the shelf, so I got the item after all that hassle.

No - I went to the automotive section with an o-ring, they told me to go to plumbing, I was looking at stuff in plumbing and the person there asked me what I was looking for - I said automotive sent me to find it in plumbing. She said it must be in automotive. I said they sent me to her, She asked to see it so I gave it to her.
15 minutes later she came back to tell me that they didn't have it in automotive.
I lost it and was escorted out of the store.
15 fucking minutes I wasted.

These day's most of the Canadian Tire Stores have gone down to dogs, their staff members are so rude and un-courteous that now i avoid Canadian Tires most of the time! Most of the stores have different Franchise Owners, but still they are just spoiling the good old name of Canadian Tire, and people are getting pretty pissed off with their high and mighty attitude and even their racial attitude too~ High time they should mend their ways or a day is not far off when their stores would start getting closed for good! Plus their Rip-Off attitude at their automobile Service Centres has also made many of their old cutomers angry and now most of them hate to go to Canadian Tires, which was one time a favourite house-hold name over here in Canada!!

I'm not sure if this is wide spread, but there is a new CT in Hamilton that has a Mark's WWH and Grocery Chain inside.

Gotta keep up with Walmart?

CDN Tire owns Marks, so why not share space? The grocery chain brings in traffic.
