Hey Gang,
I'm an editor and motion graphics designer (After Effects). I have been making corporate videos independently for ages now. Yet in all these years I've still never been able to gage what the "average" rate is for an editor or graphic designer. I ask my fellow editors but I never get a straight answer.
It occurred to me that given this is a rather anonyms forum maybe I can get some straight answers here!
The current situation: I’m working on a new project with a client I haven’t worked with in ages. They say they finally have a good budget, and can pay me fairly – though no specific numbers were offered. In the past they've always gotten a "friends and family discount", as we jokingly called it. The client asked me to tell them my going day-rate. Usually I bill by the hour, but I’m cool with a day rate if that’s the way it’s done. The client didn’t seem to care either way. They just want a number.
Any advice?
