I feel your pain. I hate that I am unable to give blood, because it is one of the easiest and frequent things you can do to help other people. They can't use my blood because I am on a permanent medication. It upsets me that if a friend or family member is sick I wouldn't be able to help them and it has nothing to do with the hobby or work.
You do have to understand their position though. They aren't trying to say anything bad about people who hobby. They are just trying to reduce the amount of money it costs to run tests through window periods for higher risk populations. They can't really write "Have you seen an upscale, reliable, health conscience escort lately or one that does 7 dollar blow jobs on king st so she can stick a needle in her arm?" on a questionnaire. It is just easier and more cost efficient to be general about it.
The hobby has it's risks. Yes, they are over careful but you kind of have to be when giving blood to a sick patient - like a month old immunocompromised baby. Something as simple as the common cold could be the death of them. Would you rather give blood from a monogamous straight edge guy or from someone who has been kissing a girl who kisses five people a day. Which one is more likely to cost more money in the screening process?
Unfortunate but understandable.
You can always donate money to the blood taking efforts. Or your time, giving out juice and cookies to those who have just given blood. Both of those are needed just as much as the blood itself.
