Apparently you can't donate blood if you've had a BBBJ with an SP and you can't donate if you've had a CBJ in the last 6 months from an SP.
Since I want to donate blood to help out my fellow man. I've had to make a choice.
So, therefore I've decided to stop the hobby altogether. Why do I mention it? Just to share the info about rules for donating blood.

(It's been fun).

I did not know that. I can understand why this rule is in place. But I would think that they screen and test all blood donations anyway?

CBS does screen, but there is also a questionaire in which you have to indicate any high risk activities you participate in. You may also be interviewed. The procedure has changed somewhat over the years so I am not 100% positive about all of the details.

For some people, they want to appear to be doing the right thing by donating blood but they check the box that says don't use my blood because I am a high risk person.... whether it is through sex or drug use or disease. I haven't donated blood in years because of my hobbying ways. When I did donate, I had taken about a two year break from hobbying but... like all good addictions...

I have not donated because of my hobbying as well. Last weekend I heard of a friend who is in need of blood due to disease and I can't risk helping him. His request was for anyone to donate blood, even if it does not match him, just to help someone/anyone. I don't hobby often, but this might be more important than a 'hobby'.

It's a bullshit rule that I'd ignore.

What difference does it make if you paid someone to suck your cock or you got it from a drunken neighbour for free?

So you can never donate if you had a BBBJ, and if it was covered then the waiting period is six month? Is that correct?

How did you manage, were you in a relationship at that time, or perhaps meditation, curious to know, could save some $$$.

I travel too much to various places that are on the "no no " list - every time I come back it's on the 1 year waiting list, then 3 months or 6 months later I have to go again ... reset the counter back another year or 6 months.

so I haven't donated in like 5 years,

but

there used to be no difference between the BB & gloved. When did that change?

I may have gotten some of the numbers wrong. Thanks for posting the link.
I was very sad when I wrote the original post.

You could always just lie on the questionnaire. Obviously they are screening for STIs and if you are a responsible hobbiest, you are getting tested from time to time, right? This screening thing came about as a result of the inquiry following the tainted blood scandal in the '80s. Like most things, the result was overkill.

I figure of you are confident enough in your health to come home to a significant other, then you shouldn't hesitate to give blood.

This is recent??? I know that if you've had anal sex at all, male or female, you cannot donate.

The way they explained it It has to do with incubation periods. The tests are getting better at reducing the time between exposure and
detection. And it also has more to do with Hepatitus C than Aids.

This is a continuation of a societal paranoia of SPs and the industry. In my many years in the hobby I would conclude that sex with an SP is inherently safer than picking up a bar fly. If I could get funded for a comprehensive study I am sure that the conclusions would back up my speculation. The women involved in this business follow much safer practices than society in general. I have never feared bringing something home after enjoying the services of our fine professionals in this area. Common sense and discretion should always be used.

I feel your pain. I hate that I am unable to give blood, because it is one of the easiest and frequent things you can do to help other people. They can't use my blood because I am on a permanent medication. It upsets me that if a friend or family member is sick I wouldn't be able to help them and it has nothing to do with the hobby or work.

You do have to understand their position though. They aren't trying to say anything bad about people who hobby. They are just trying to reduce the amount of money it costs to run tests through window periods for higher risk populations. They can't really write "Have you seen an upscale, reliable, health conscience escort lately or one that does 7 dollar blow jobs on king st so she can stick a needle in her arm?" on a questionnaire. It is just easier and more cost efficient to be general about it.

The hobby has it's risks. Yes, they are over careful but you kind of have to be when giving blood to a sick patient - like a month old immunocompromised baby. Something as simple as the common cold could be the death of them. Would you rather give blood from a monogamous straight edge guy or from someone who has been kissing a girl who kisses five people a day. Which one is more likely to cost more money in the screening process?

Unfortunate but understandable.

You can always donate money to the blood taking efforts. Or your time, giving out juice and cookies to those who have just given blood. Both of those are needed just as much as the blood itself.
