cage understood his character as a socially awkward introvert who misreads social cues and the waitress got her shot at a real side role
seems like a slice of life film which are best acted films instead of escapism action movies

very little script, everything is said with body language and micro expressions, they ecome the character they do not act it
Don't know what is going on here but you do not have to appreciate the acting

Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson talk softly in a hotel room, bonding over loneliness. The intimacy comes from pauses and glances rather than dramatic dialogue.

The director leaves good actors alone to decide, and they themselves do not know what will happen
actors get into the character and try to do something that seems believable in the moment

This makes for great acting. You don't know why it is great; it just is. But the reason Is you believed it.
That is why I like Jack Nicholson. He can do very interesting stuff without stepping out of character. Doing creative stuff without being real does not work, acting rewards creativity but only if it seems real.

The train is a metaphor for the character's life.
I try to do acting.
You need to be the character, not act the character. Voight's bad teeth, his slur, bad grammer all demonstrate his attempt to become the convict, an uneducated loser who has learned too late. You feel sorry for him because you believe he is real.
