Great store. Also, outstanding place to pick up lower income bracket women, if you're into that.

They didn't include Canadian and international locations.

They didn't include 2008.

Wal*Mart has only been in Canada since 1994 when it purchased Woolco's 122 locations. They now have 330 locations. They also own Sam's Club.

Although it shares it's name with the US corporate giant, it is run as a separate entity to Wal*Mart USA. They have their own head office, their own marketing, operations and buying departments. They also have separate human resources, real estate, traffic, importing and service departments all run from their Mississauga HO. They employ about 80,000 Canadians.

And yes... they are an EXCELLENT company.

If you like cheap crap made in China.
Well if you don't, then you better not shop anywhere... Seriously- that holds true for pretty much every major department store.

Where do you suggest we shop if we don't want to run into "cheap crap made in china".

I am not suggesting that Wal*Mart is the only store to shop in... God knows, I would never even think of buying clothes there, but for many things, household products, kid's toys, DVD's, CD's, small electronic gizmo's, toiletries etc. you can't beat them.

As has EVERY other store in Canada...no Chinese products in Home Depot? Canadian Tire? Best Buy? Future Shop? Home Hardware? The Bay? Sears? Rona? Lowes? Lee Valley Tools?

Name ONE store in Canada without Chinese made products? ONE? Name ONE shoe or boot that is NOT made in China? Try to buy ONE product in Canada that is NOT made in China (other than food)...come out of your cave and try smelling the coffee man...
Very True!

I don't think people get the point and are missing the point by far.

They're a few audio amplifiers made in Canada. Would Walmart carry them? No because they would be too expensive and Walmart would probably tell them what they would want it for. Pure capitalism here. The consumer who is hounded with places like Walmart don't know any better since they're uneducated about electronics. Because people think, A) The product has the same features, it has to be the same which is not always true at all, and B) Consumers would just throw it away anyways and they call themselves environmental friendly?????

The point is, Walmart WOULD Never EVER carry a Canadian product in it's Canadian Stores because it would be too expensive and Walmart would want to make so much on it, that the local manufacture couldn't afford to do. They're not doing any good when it comes to selling junk.

By us supporting them, we are not solving the problem.

This is why people don't understand when it comes to quality. That's why you get your warranty from Futureshop? What for? So when it breaks, you get a new TV or get it repaired. Well, if the product lasted atleast 10 years, you wouldn't need no frigin Warranty.

Ahmen.

When China is shut down, Wal Mart kisses the dirt.

Gyaos.

Exactly. And China will go down one day. Then what are the manufactures going to do? Find another cheap place? Probably.

We are our own worst enemy.

Did you know that a large chunk of Canadian Tire is controlled by one family? Did you know that They experienced expnential growth after the low priced Chinese goods started to flow into Canada ? ( and other countries around the world ) Did you know many of their house brand products do not even have the MADE IN CHINA label to indicate the country of origin?

O

OnTheWayOut

I've seen lots of items in Walmart with advertisements saying "Proudly made in Canada" or something of that sort. Of course those signs were probably made in China.

You REALLY have no idea what the hell you're talking about do you!

I deal with Wal*Mart everyday in my business... so I do.

The HIGH end electronics you are talking about is not available at Wal*Mart because that is NOT their demographic. (I doubt it is at Future Shop either BTW) HIGH END electronics should ONLY be purchased at stores that cater to that Market... (e.g. Natural Sound in Kitchener- which is where I go, Bay Bloor Radio etc. in TO...)

Aside from that, Wal*Mart carries many Canadian products if they are available... The thing is: most products for the masses are made off shore, because that is where the manufacturing base is... Why? Because the VAST majority of the public demands lower prices... If this were not the case Wal*Mart wouldn't even exist.

It is economics 101... if the demand was not there, neither would the supply... ergo- Wal*Mart exists BECAUSE there is a customer, not the other way around!

Sheesh, I wish people would read passed the head lines for a change!
