I received this email today and I wanted to share it with you all.

Message from Peel Regional Police - TORONTO

Importance: High

Please read!!!

Warning from Police from Sue Colwell.

This is something received from the MD State Police
and I received it from my employer who works for the
City of Owen Sound. Please read this very carefully
then send it out to all the people online that you
know. Something like this is nothing to take casually.
This is something you do want to pay attention to.

If a person with the screen name of Slavemaster
contacts you, do not reply. Do not talk to this
person, do not answer any of his/her instant messages
or email. Whoever this person may be is a suspect for
murder in the death of 56 women (so far) contacted
through the internet.

Please send this to all the women on your buddy list
and ask them to pass this on as well. This screen name
was seen on Yahoo, AOL, and Excite so far.

This is not a joke. Please send this to men too, just
in case they have wives, daughters, mothers, etc. Send
to every one you know.

Ladies, this is serious. If you receive something from
Slavemaster, contact your local police department.

This one is mostly false...

shaneen have you verified that this is not a hoax?
It's always important to look out for internet hoaxes but, at the same time, one does not want to ignore a legitimate warning.

Fortunately, in this case, the warning is no longer valid and is also quite exagerated.

There was a real rapist, who used the "slavemaster" on-line handle to connect with, meet, and rape female victims. In fact, he has been arrested for some of these crimes and also the murder of two of his victims.

The number of victims has become exagerated and the e-mails that circulate don't mention that the criminal is in prison.

The stalking and abuse of on-line victims is a real threat. There are sick people out there who use the internet to indulge their criminal cravings. We would all be well advised to exercise caution in our on-line activities and, from that point of view, the warning is a good reminder.

However, the specifics of this warning are not accurate. Check out this site for more information on this warning.

If you're interested in a more complete list of internet urban myths, there are many web-sites that provide analyses of some of the more common messages you may have seen from time to time. Here is one example of such sites.

Whenever I see a warning or similar message that has been passed along, I always check out the debunking sites before passing it on; I don't like to perpetuate a prank. The problem with all of these fake warnings (I'm sure most of you have seen many others like this) is that if a real warning ever came along, we might fail to take it seriously.

Zog.

I would not have taken it so seriously if it was from someone I did not know. This was from a very trusted friend, so I thought ha ha ha very funny friend. I think that him finding humour in this is just plain immature.
Thanks
and sorry for the false warning

Shaneen - is it possible that your "friend" also thought it was a legitimate warning?? - It could be that he didn't realize that it was a hoax...just a thought.

using something other than outlook would help.
