Vlad is not interested in controlling the Ukraine. The Donbass rebellion was fomented to secure parts of the USSR MIC that was in Eastern Ukraine. Now this has been accomplished Vlad would be content for these parts to be autonomous regions. In the longer run, if a Western linked Ukraine does well this will dissolve if it does not then they will stay linked with Russia.

Putin was almost certain that Trump would get a second term which would have made the annexation of the Ukraine somewhat more likely.

Taiwan has no nuclear deterrent and after the Olympic, China will annex them. The West cannot handle the Kremlin and Beijing simultaneously.
