I discovered that all the vitamins im taking ..when i purchased a vitamin

guide at chapters.........guess what ! MAJORITY of vitamin brands are like 5 % to 20 % purity with the rest as fillers ! Now im talking

all the huge names in the drugstores Jameson etc.. .....Now there are some

vitamins out

there from natural homeopaths and certain gyms that will give you the

nearly pure stuff for like 100 buckaroos n more a bottle

So now im so pissed ive spent over 200 bucks on a bunch of fillers !

I didnt do my homework on this filler situation before i bought them so im pissed ! live n learn !

Does Anyone know a place where pure vitamins out there that arent 100 bucks a bottle in a store Toronto or barrie ? I refuse to buy them online though

Thanks

I'd do more research before jumping to a conclusion - especially if that book you read promotes or endorses any product or production process. Very few health books are written without an agenda these days.

The guy at Ginko in the Manulife Centre (next to the Lingere shop) says SISU is the best. They have a large selections and some of their vitamins are in the $20-$30 range. It's been around a long time, maybe you can start by talking to the them.

Ive been using SISU brand for some time now and you can actually tell the difference when taking them vs brands like Jameson.

I recommend talking to the nutritionist at Noah's, NE corner of Bloor and Spadina. They have one on duty pretty much all the time. They will give you the straight dope on vitimins.

All of the latest studies that recommend supplements for athletes, ( hence the doping scandals, which is another thread) are saying that you should try to achieve most of your nutrients from organic grown fruits and veg. Your protein from grass feed animals, or fish. etc.etc.

And your vitamin supplements should be as natural as possible. Yes you will pay a premium for these products. But it is your body.

Would you put cheap fuel in a Luxury automobile? ( providing you can afford it)

Your body is a luxury vehicle and you should take care of it the best that you can. Sometimes this means cutting corners on some other things in life. The long term affects will be a better quality of life.

Here's a story:

When I was in the womb it was during my mom's hippy phase. When my brother was in the womb 2 years later it was during her health-nut vitamin taking phase.

My brother has a successful marriage to his highschool sweetheart, has two kids, a nice home, University degree, good paying job, etc. etc.

Me? I wanna be a rock star and I lurk on escort revue websites.

Doesn't it also depend on how much your body can absorb on a daily basis? You may want to check with a nutritionist what the recommended daily dosage is and then decide what format you should buy. It may not make sense to spend 3 dollars a pill if half of it is flushed out your system again anyway.

LOL! You obviously don't pay attention to people at the gas station and the auto parts stores. Pays $50K for the car but obsess with with saving $2 a week on gas. Just as bad with wires, plugs, filters and tires.

Funniest ones are the guys with performance sedan like Accura or Audi buying $60 s-rated tires at Wall Mart. That car won't stop or handle any better than a 1987 Regal with performance tires, probably less safe in the rain!

Of course it is mostly filler..... you want to try and grab a 50 mg pill. I'd rather use my fingers than tweezers....the filler is needed to make the pill a manageable size.
I'm sure that some size is due to stupid marketing....bigger pill, look like it has more stuff.
The thing to check is the other contents of the pill. Good vitamin companies will use stuff that is bettter quality as filler.
Also some vitamins are water soluble, some fat soluble. The latter generally have some fatty substances in the pill to help absorption, or as a suspension media.
Before anyone tires to mention that all are made by 2 or 3 companies anyways, that is BS... there are 2 alone in Vancouver.
All will have the advertised amount of applicable vitamin within about 5% per pill, it's the filler that separates the good from the bad.
btw, believe it is vitamin E excess that causes the yellow pee, or the dye they use in it, not sure though.

Too much Vitamin C gives you the shits, not nuclear piss. Vitamin B gives you a yellow/green colour when you reach your limit for daily requirement, then all you do is piss the rest away. Best to spread the B out over the day. Too much C loosens stools. Too much A is not good for the eyes.

Calcium is the hardest to absorb, and lots of times the Calcium tablets pass right through you. Ask someone who pumps septic systems.

Yes Alexis, there are lots of scammers out there, saying they have the best pills. I would look for organic controlled sources first, purety, and bioavailable to the body. Some companies use solvents in their process, and traces are in the pill. Mega 3 & 6 oils are best when cold processes are used. Heat treated oils, are less effective. An example, is oils in dark bottles that have to be refrigerated. They are the safest, if kept cold. Clear bottles of cooking oil is hydrogenated, so it can sit on the shelf, and won't spoil with sunlight, but isn't good for the body.

Vitamins

Just read Dr. Bob (Arnot); Men's Journal. he recommends a multi-vitamin plus 3 grams of fish oil and says that covers all basic nutritional needs. It's what he does.

I'm switching to that; he's a good source imho

Heard the same thing. Even with cheap "generic" multivitamins, you can only absorb a certain amount and the excess is "excreted"
