I am going to buy a new laptop sometime this summer. This means I am pretty much locked into Vista it seems.

So what is the story on Vista and DRM? I have a divx porn collection which I watch with Media Player Classic and VideoLAN. I hear Vista does a "superior" job of dealing with DRM.

I have no interest in converting the divx to DVD.

Will staying away from Windows Media Player be enough? Or do I have to somehow downgrade the OS to WinXP? Or just look for new laptops that somehow still come configured with Win XP?

Thanks

Honestly, I don't know the answer to you question as I don't have any experience with Vista. However, I can tell you that I know of no new laptops that are coming with Windows XP, unless they are older models that stores are trying to sell off or they are refirbished.

Secondly, you can always just buy the laptop, format the hard drive then install XP and your good to go. Personally that what I would do.... Or I'd buy a Mac....

P.S. I would imagine that there would be no problems playing divx files on Vista.

I am a Computer dealer. (not trying to sell you.) I know Acer still has some XP Pro models available. Also we have converted 5 or more Vista systems to Windows XP without any trouble.
