Don't quite understand the question but you're good for 90 days with a Canadian passport....

Whether or not you need a visa depends on the relationship between Japan and the country that issued your passport. So, if Japan requires a visa from your country of citizenship, yes you do. It all depends on the passport you use to enter the country.

Holding a Canadian permanent residence card may (or may not) make it easier for you to get that visa because as a permanent resident of a wealthy country you are less likely to arrive in Japan and then disappear.

Japan does allow a brief 5 (or 7?) day transit visa for many countries for a fairly short visit so even if you require a visa you may be able to get by with a very brief stopover visa that is easy to get, if you just want to go for a few days.

I believe that your actual country of citizenship would take precedence in this case. You'll probably need to travel using your passport into Japan.

You will need your PR card to get back into Canada though.

Here
Its an easy search on the internet, and I'm sure there is an official Canadian government side that lists the reciprocal travel agreements with each country. My guess is that a passport is sufficient.

A visa is only necessary when there is some added level of documentation to limit and track visitors going in/out of a country. I needed a visa to go to Russia, but not Latvia or Italy.

You need a passport to enter Japan. The question here was whether you need a visa if you have a passport from some 3rd country plus a Canadian permanent residence card. The answer is that the PR card has no impact on whether you need a visa to enter Japan--it depends entirely on the passport you carry.

So far as I know the US was the only country Canadians could visit without a passport.

Accurate response, it's all dependent on your citizenship, not your country of residence!! Be careful trying to getinto the US just using a permanent resident card, they may not accept that depending on your country of origin!!

Yeah......and what country are you a citizen of, rather than a "permanent resident"? Convenient to leave that out, however, the rules to the country's passport you carry, apply.
