IF NJ misses the playoffs this year - you might hear some grumblings in the press.
Individual stats in basketball, though impressive; isn't that in important to the dynamics of a teams' sucess.
Great players elevate medicore players and make them play better under a controlled well coached system. Most great teams with sucess (as in championships not $$$revenues) have 1 or possibly 2 "great" players and they elevate the game of 3 or possibly 4. The Kevin Mchales, Scottie Pippens, James Worthys are the direct beneficiaries of the Birds, MJ and Magic / Kareems of the league.
VC is a pussy. A soft, crybaby, mamas boy, "I'm gonna take my ball home" kinda player. There's been a lot of them in the league, shit there's a lot of them now - a dime a dozen. He will never be a true singular gem on a team ( a Skywalker Thompson, The Iceman, a Bob Pettit, an Elvin Hayes or even a Bernard King). He's got too much baggage. Plus I doubt he has the heart to play hard, everynight even on a mediocre team (proofs in the pudding in TO).
Though it'll never happen again - I long for the days of The Pearl, the World B Frees, Tiny Archibald, The Glide and a man whon should be in the HOF... 'Nique- the guys who came in everyday and played their hearts out, win or lose.
His numbers mean shit if they can't win. And if they don't win - he'll just quit. One day VC will be a footnote - like Derek Coleman - ineveitably a joke.
I've seen the stats of players who played the same position as VC, roughly the same size and I laugh at the thought of VC in the HOF. He couldn't wring the sweat off the jock of a player like 'Nique or even the Rifleman. Why? Because these guys are winners, with or without a ring.
