they should have thrown the idiot under the train

An unruly subway passenger acting in an intentionally obtuse manner, possibly drunk and probably a bit dangerous? Thanks to a new video going viral online, that can forever be known as a "Toronto Problem."

A video posted on Facebook under that title captured a man standing in the open doorway of a subway train. The man can be heard shouting and mumbling while someone off camera warns him the train can't move until he lets the doors close.

After about a minute, the train's doors begin closing repeatedly on the man, who continues to refuse to move. Eventually a passenger steps forward and pushes the man off the train. And while this does resolve the standoff, it also sends the person into a screaming, kicking fit of fury.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said on Twitter that passengers should leave such situations to trained transit officers. Ross told the Toronto Star that passengers should press the yellow alarm strip to alert authorities.

Nothing new here. There are strange people everywhere. The subway just happens to be a magnet for them to hang out in. There's always a few panhandlers at the bottom of the escalators at Yonge station, a guy that praises Jesus as loud as he can at Yonge and Dundas, a few that take a piss at the end of the platform.

The passenger that pushed the other man off the train is totally wrong here. Passengers should leave it to TTC security or police to deal with.

No, the asshole blocking the door is totally wrong here.
Leaving this situation to TTC security would have made an even longer delay and no one on the train wants that.

What's a pan handler? Do you mean beggars? Why do we call them panhandlers in Toronto? Call them what they are - beggars. And the passenger who pushed the guy off is the only person on the train not afraid to do something. Everyone else pulls out their phone and films it instead. They are the assholes. Instead of filming it, maybe do something.

Good job by that guy on the train. It was a very simple solution, that required no intervention by state authorities. People should learn to depend on themselves.
Could not agree more.

Good going on the guy who solved the problem. (oh, and 20 years ago, I saw a similar thing happen, only back then, everyone was not walking around with their own video camera.)

not everyone has the physical strength to confront a drunken luniac like the guy in video. So lets not call everyone else asshole.

You need a reality "checks"...the person filming could be a chick. You think she can handle that situation alone? Not everyone is as brave as you behind the keyboard...

And the "asshole" blocking the door is clearly not well. Could be hiding a weapon for all we know. He may be "wrong" for blocking the door, but the other passenger pushing him out the train is also wrong. God forbid we get inconvenienced on a Saturday night at 11:30.

Wish the red shirt had just clocked him.

That said, I was half expecting the red shirt to somehow die in the video...

If it was a chick, she was certainly brave enough to stand there laugh while recording on her phone. I'm sure it was on facebook within the hour, along with some catchy caption about her exciting evening on the subway. My grandmother is strong enough to push a drunken man out of a doorway. He screamed and kicked out but so what? That flailing kick was actually quite funny. It's easy to sit here and criticize and say what one would or would not do. As tough as we all are behind a keyboard, I know for a fact that i'd do something. I don't know what has happened to this city in recent years. Why are people so afraid to get involved? At the very least go confront him and yell at him to get the fuck out of the doorway. Oooh, what if he has a gun, what if he has a knife? In that highly unlikely situation, then push the damn alarm.

I bet you vote conservative. People whose lives are defined by fear usually do.
Interesting.........I've done the same thing twice off a streetcar. And I vote with a conservative bent these days.

Once moved a car illegally double parked on queen st with several others as well after a snowstorm. Shoved it down a side street to get the streetcar on its way.

We just prefer a more direct route on my opinion........
