Jeffrey Forde had seen rats inside the New York City subway before but never while riding inside an actual subway car.
This one raced frantically through the car, then up and onto the face of a guy sleeping across from Forde.
“I don’t know if the guy was actually homeless, he just had the typical look of a guy in New York,” said Forde, whose video had topped a half-million views and climbing in just two days.
“It woke him up, he got it off and then he went back to sleep.”
Forde, who also promotes the comedy club Ha in Times Square, was on his way home at 2 a.m. Tuesday, taking the Number 4 train to Utica Ave. in Brooklyn, when the rat darted down the car and his camera started rolling.
“We see rats all the time in New York,” the 21-year-old photographer told the Star on Friday. “But this is something rare.”
Several subway riders fled the car but Forde wasn’t scared.
“I’m 100 times bigger than a rat. I think it was more scared than anything. It crawled underneath the chairs and I got off.”
Forde has started merchandising his viral vermin with T-shirts and hoodies.
He’ll keep shooting and posting videos of “moments I’ve caught randomly” on YouTube but doesn’t expect to see a rat riding the rails every again.
