Thanks for the tips.

VLC, SMPlayer, mpv Media Player, all play files in the main 4k download folder fine. Discovered audio distortions was due to VLC volume control being cranked up to high.....so many setting to watch/check, lol.

Good idea creating a new folder to move 'liked files' to save so, 4K folder stays emptier.

The default linux Videos player gives some problems, freezes up the PC at times. Now I just avoid using it.

I found 4K Downloader works, but it would not download 4K videos from YouTube. I always got a down-scaled version.

It used to but then it became crippled. But it also depends if the owner allows it, are you a member of google/youtube. I notice those things overtime. I think 4K wants you to pay to d/l 4k video. Or .... AS I read here..
Link A

I get the option in 4K for this video . ICELAND . Which version of 4K downloader do you have? Post a link to the video that you can't get.

!_I can get the option for 4K.jpg

I just got something named "MediaHuman YouTube Downloader 3.9.9.33 (1802) with patch". I haven't opened the .rar archive yet, but I'll give a review after I try it out. I trust the source, so I'm not concerned that it might have malware.

If anybody else uses patched or cracked software like I do, AND uses a Windows computer, be aware that Windows updates routinely scans for unregistered software, and they usually make it unusable in the future. My unregistered copy of WinSnap v3.5.5 no longer works properly, and it's not even an installed program. I think I can get it to work properly if I do the following:

a) Delete the files currently in the extracted .rar archive.

b) Re-extract the files on a drive other than C:, preferably on a flash stick that I insert only when I want to make a screen cap.

If that doesn't work, and I want to make an image file from a web page, I can save the page as web page complete/ html, then make the screen capture from the html document, at a time when I'm not connected to the Internet. I don't think Windows would be able to detect that.

I can't do this for Youtube video downloading, but for older apps unrelated to Internet use, I have a separate computer with Windows XP that has never been connected to the Internet. I use it for work, compressing .VOB video, making computer fonts or animated gifs, or playing DOS based Wolfenstein 3D addons, or Risk II. It's superfast. I make fonts with 1995 software that doesn't work with Windows after XP, nor with XP after some update from February, 2013, and people using the latest and most expensive software on the market can't reproduce some of the things I do.

The work computer was custom built from old parts, and has XP with Service packs 1 and 2 only. I can imagine a day in the not too distant future where computers with XP that have never been connected to the Internet will be VERY valuable commodities. Total cost was $100, with no tax, because I paid cash. It's one of those old 'horizontal tower' models, with a Floppy disk A: Drive, but also separate CDROM and DVD Drives. Most of the software I use often doesn't work with the Windows o/s's from Vista to date, even if it is registered.

With Windows XP. you could read the .log files created after an update with Notepad. Most of it is in plain English. When I get a new monitor for a third computer, I'll post some of the information from older Windows updates logs.

Any recommendations for video downloaders?

I've been using Clipconverter.cc but it can't download Youtube anymore.
I’ve been using an iPad app “Documents” to download hundreds of YouTube videos. I also use an app called MediaConvert to covert some music videos into mp3s on USB drives for listening in my suv.

Anybody looking for a free app to compress .VOB video from DVD to another file type like Xvid .avi, .mp4 or .mkv should pass on Wondershare Uniconverter, which comes near the top of search results. It looks like it does a good job, and really quickly, but it's far from free. Purchase cost is $80 USD, or a one year license is $40 USD. There are plenty of apps that do the job, that actually are free.

Once I was playing a video with VLC Media Player, and I took a snapshot of the video with WinSnap 3.5.5, creating a .png image file. When I opened the .png file again, while a different video was running in VLCMP, that video, with motion, played inside the .png file! As soon as VLCMP was closed, the video playing in the image file stopped. I could reproduce this with image file types other than .png, but it wasn't always successful; 24 bit bitmap worked; .gif and .jpg did not. I might possibly get a very psychedelic video if I tried this with a 16 or 256 colour bitmap. If that works, I'll post a screen capture.

Free Video Editor is a good free app. I just use it to make clips from longer videos, so I didn't look into the additional options available in the 'Pro' version, which would have a price tag.

I had been using an old version of BoilSoft video splitter that I downloaded from Demonoid many years ago, but it doesn't work with newer video file types like .mp4 and ,mkv.

onomatopoeia - I don't get your message.

But to go from DVD / Blu -> mkv I use makemkv

to edit, split, join mkv /dvd files I use MKVToolNix - easy to cut broadcast tv shows that was grabbed from weird tv channels that will never go on dvd , you need to find instructions in youtube made by mainly people in India some in US.

to do above for mp4 I haven't played with but it looks easy is LosslessCut

Cost you say? what is that I say?

Sometimes I make a video clip from a longer video, like a music performance from an episode of Saturday Night Live, where I don't want to keep the whole file. BoilSoft works on older video formats like .mpg or .avi. I'm mainly using this for .mp4 videos; that's the standard format on the site from which I'm downloading. I use AutoGordianKnot to convert DVDs to Xvid, on a computer with Windows XP o/s, but it doesn't seem to work with Windows 10; the output files had sound but no picture. I don't have any BluRays.

I don't pay for these sorts of apps. Many that are advertised as free are just trial versions that limit clips to about three minutes. The free video editor app is actually free, and does the job well for basic clip editing. I just wanted to save other people's time by not having them download and install the other free apps I uninstalled a few minutes after I first used them.

On my phone, I downloaded an App called Tubemate. It works great, but it took me a few mins to figure it out the first time. Updates have made it a little more user friendly.
